Mortise and tenon joints have stood the test of time for their remarkable strength. This traditional joint involves a projecting piece of wood, called a tenon, securely fitting into a corresponding cavity, a mortise. It can be reinforced with glue or wedges for stability for a stronger hold.
A mortice and tenon joint is generally recognised as the toughest around. As a result, they are sensible to use for commercial joinery projects. In simple terms, it allows two pieces of wood to be connected together.
According to finish and trim carpenters, the most challenging aspect of the trade is making an accurate cut. In trim carpentry, causing a cut that's off by as little as 1/16″ shows in the final look of the room.
A butt joint is the easiest of all simple wood joints, but also is the weakest. The cut end of one board butts up against the edge of another piece at a right angle. The key to every type of wood joint is having smooth, square cuts on the boards, and the butt joint is no exception.
A butt joint uses a simple technique whereby two pieces of material are joined together at their ends, without any special shaping or cutting. Although it is simple, the butt joint is also the weakest of the wood joinery types.
As you may expect, a well-cut bridle joint can be more difficult to achieve than a standard mortise and tenon joint due to the fact that the joint is more visible than a standard mortise and tenon.
The shoulder joint is the body's most flexible joint, as well as its most complex. Three bones, nearly a dozen different muscles and many ligaments and tendons meet in the shoulder.
Mortise and Tenon Joint: Traditional Strength

Synovial joints are the only joints that have a space (a synovial cavity filled with fluid) between the adjoining bones. The presence of synovial fluid and an articular capsule give synovial joints the greatest range of movement among the three joint types; however they are the weakest of the joint types.
Both jobs require you to stand for long periods of time, work with your hands, climb ladders and may involve working inside small crawl spaces. However, carpentry may be slightly more physically demanding, as it more often requires lifting and carrying heavy items than electrical work does.
The simplest joint is the butt joint, which involves joining the ends or edges of two pieces of wood to form a right angle. Common methods of reinforcement include the use of glue, screws, nails, dowels or pocket holes. Pros: It's quick and simple to make, making it great for short and easy tasks.
7 – Mortise and Tenon Joint
Typically, mortise and tenon are straight in shape, though round tenons and mortises can be applied as well. Whilst this type of joint is much harder to shape than the other simpler joints, the result is a great deal more structural rigidity.
Dowel connectors are great for connecting two pieces of wood. These connectors get reinforced with glue which secures the joint, making it much stronger than a screw. You can insert a dowel into either side of the wood so that the load remains evenly distributed and the connection is less likely to fail.
A bridle joint requires a bit more finesse when gluing it together. It's unwise to place clamps directly over the ends of the joint, since the tenon sometimes protrudes from the surface, depending on your machine setup, and the clamps can prevent the shoulders from drawing up tight.
Mortise and Tenon Joint
A peg, or tenon, is cut into the end of one board to fit snugly into a hole, or mortise, on the adjoining piece of lumber to create a strong joint.
The glenohumeral joint of the shoulder has the highest range of motion of the human body. It is also the most inherently unstable, being the joint that most often develops recurrent instability.
Tibiofemoral joint.
The knee joint combines the thigh bones, shin bone, and fibula to make it the largest and the most complex joint in the body.
