Rosemary, thyme, basil, and mint have scents that bugs dislike. Mosquitoes, cockroaches, and stinging insects try to avoid these herbs.
Another easy tip for how to keep bugs away from patio furniture is to burn citronella. It's particularly effective at discouraging flying nuisances, like mosquitoes, from pestering you while you're outside. One of the easiest ways to use citronella on your deck, patio, or other outdoor space is with candles.
If you want to manage a pest infestation, you will want to use the household products that kill pests. Cornmeal or borax baits for ants, diatomaceous earth dusting for crawling pests, vinegar traps for flies, Windex for spiders, and other lethal solutions will give you the chance for getting rid of pests.

Create a fly and wasp repellent.

For example, flea infestations can take typically two weeks to gain total control. An average outdoor cockroach infestation may take 6 days. Spiders will leave when you eliminate their food source (other smaller insects). Ants can take 7 to 10 days to get rid of with the right combination of products.
Diatomaceous earth (sometimes to referred to simply as DE) is one of those handy substances that has all kinds of uses around the home and garden. It is mainly used for pest control, it's effective at killing everything from fleas and roaches indoors to aphids and slugs outdoors.
Examples. Examples of insectivores include different kinds of species of carp, opossum, frogs, lizards (e.g. chameleons, geckos), nightingales, swallows, echidnas, numbats, anteaters, armadillos, aardvarks, pangolins, aardwolfs, bats, and spiders.
Repair any holes in drywall and caulk gaps around floor molding where insects can invade your home from neighboring units. Patch holes and loose edges on window and door screens. And be sure to keep windows and doors closed if they do not have screens. Repair gaps around pipes, air conditioners, and dryer vents.
The three most difficult pests to exterminate are:

Yellowish, pinkish, or orange (sodium vapor, halogen, dichroic yellow) are the least attractive to most insects.
Try mixing a few drops of peppermint oil with some hot water and place it in a spray bottle. A good ratio is 5 to 10 drops of essential oil per ounce of water. Use the mixture to spray down countertops, furniture, curtains and blinds and hard-to-reach areas of the home where insects are often present.
Deter Insects
We may be fans of Vicks, but insects decidedly are not. Dab a bit on your arms, legs, neck, or other areas of exposed skin to keep bugs (including mosquitoes) at bay, however, it is not as effective at preventing bites as a commercial insect repellant.
Common essential oils such as lavender, citronella, lemon, or eucalyptus all naturally repel bugs. They don't like the smell! Even peppermint oil, which smells amazing to most humans, is abhorrent to bugs. Since essential oils are corrosive to human skin when applied directly, it's best to dilute them.
While cinnamon won't kill beetles and bugs, they dislike the smell. The powder stops them from clinging to seeds, so it works well against lots of weevil species including flour, wheat, bean, maize, and oak nut weevil breeds. Put cinnamon leaves in the bags of grains and flour.
Which Paint Colors Repel Insects? Because bugs see colors on the UV spectrum, they cannot register hues of green or blue. Painters even use blue paint to repel bees and wasps. Painting your porch ceiling in a blue tone could repel wasps, leading to fewer wasp-eating spiders around your home!
