A full bathroom mortice lock is a larger mechanism with a latch bolt at the top and a dead bolt further down (a rectangular shaped metal component). You will see a much longer metal plate (face plate) on the edge of the door. If you have a tubular mortice latch in the door, then you have a 'privacy' handle.
In most cases for your bathroom, you want a privacy, or Bed & Bath, lock. “What does this mean?” you ask. A privacy lock lets you lock the door from one side using either a push-lock mechanism or a thumbturn.
By definition, privacy locks are locksets that can be locked by a button or a turn piece on the inside with no key function. There are 3 types of privacy locks: turn button, privacy pushpin/button lock, and privacy bolt with a lever or knob.
The difference is that an entrance is used on an exterior door and it uses a key to unlock or lock the door from the outside. A privacy is used on a bathroom or bedroom door and can easily be unlocked from the outside by a generic tool, like a bobby/hair pin, small flat head screw driver if necessary.
The thumbturn locks are the best choices for cloakrooms, especially where small children can easily lock themselves in and help needs to be at hand. Our Bathroom Thumbturn and release products are easily installed on doors and perfectly match the existing doorknob or door handle.
A privacy lock will have a tubular notice latch, while a bathroom lock will have what is called is full bathroom mortice, which is a larger and more complex locking system. Both bathroom locks and privacy locks come with a release on the external handle.
Passage latch
Latch bolt operated by lever from either side at all times. Privacy sets are used for restrooms or dressing rooms. They can be locked from the inside with a thumbturn or push button/turn for privacy, and they are typically unlocked from the outside using a tool rather than a key.
Deadbolt door locks are the most secure type of key lock and are usually used on a home's exterior door. Available in single- and double-cylinder styles, deadbolts are rated according to their strength from Grade 1 to Grade 3.

These locks are typically engaged through a push or turn button when privacy is desired. The purpose of these locks is not security-based but instead privacy-based. As such, they are also designed with an emergency hole that allows you to quickly and easily insert a thin tool to unlock them.

Adding a wall and a door between the toilet and the rest of the bathroom can make way for multitasking while maintaining privacy. Use a pocket sliding door to save space. Privacy Lockset Function. This lockset is used primarily in bathrooms and/or bedrooms, intended for the purpose its name suggests; privacy. They will most often have a small hole on the outside, and a push button on the inside.
A push button privacy door knob locks by simply pushing a button located on the interior side of the knob. To unlock the door, simply turn the interior door handle, a “Click” sound will often be heard.
Plastic Card Method
Find a rigid plastic card and slide it between the door and the door jamb. Gently wiggle the plastic card around the gap until it's level with the strike plate. Press the latch and continue pushing in the card to depress the latch and then push the door open.
Choosing a Lock
The best type of lock for the situation largely depends on the location. Opt for a deadbolt or electronic lock for the exterior doors of the home and consider installing knob locks or level locks for any interior doors that require additional security, like a bathroom.
Deadbolt Lock
Deadbolts are unarguably one of the most popular type of door locks, and they are widely used for residential properties. They are opened by turning a knob or key without the use of a spring.
Ideally the lock should display horizontal for locked and vertical for unlocked. This is the accepted standard in most of the world. In actuality, this is more dependent on the manufacturer of the lock and when/where manufactured.
Bathroom door locks are generally required for privacy rather than high security. Standard case sizes for full bathroom locks are 63/64mm and 75/76mm.
Thumbturn locks offer a quick locking solution, often found in bathrooms. Thumbturns are very simple to operate, they provide instant privacy without compromising safety. The thumbturn locks from the inside but can be opened from the outside in an emergency.
