The best course of action is to adjust the amount of powder being used and/or increase the water temperature. If that doesn't work, switch to a liquid formula. Using a non-high-efficiency formula with a high-efficiency machine could also have similar results.
Using too much detergent can leave residue on clothes. This is particularly true in high-efficiency washers – both top loading and front loading. These washers use much less water during the wash and rinse cycles. Using more than 3 teaspoons (yes, 3 teaspoons) of detergent will leave residue in and on your clothes.
It's formulated to deliver a deep clean for all of life's messy moments. Persil laundry detergent is great for everyday laundry, even activewear, as it not only helps brighten and whiten your clothes, but also helps fight tough stains.

Why was the Persil advert banned? A viewer sent in a complaint to the ASA, who took issue with the claims made in the advert's text and narration. They challenged the point that Persil was environmentally friendly. The viewer also sought evidence from Unilever, the brand's manufacturer, that would back up these claims.
Often, white residue is the result of:
An excessive amount of lint. An excessive amount of detergent. Common body soils, often found on workout clothes and activewear, interacting with detergent.
The gasket on the inside of a washing machine can easily collect debris, fluff, and all manner of nasties. Over time, leftover detergent will collect in this dirt, resulting in sludge. If this isn't cleared out regularly, it can easily end up on your clothing during the wash cycle.
A pod placed on top of clothes might not dissolve all the way. This leaves you with streaks and spotting from detergent being left on wet clothes. Streaking also occurs if the washer is overloaded and there isn't enough water for the pod to dissolve.
America's favorite detergent, Tide, has every laundry detergent you need - whether it's HE detergent or Tide PODS® with Febreze. For over 75 years, we have been committed to changing the way laundry is done while always delivering the hardest working laundry detergents.
Use Vinegar and Baking Soda as a Laundry Detergent Alternative. When you wonder what you can substitute for laundry detergent for your heavily stained or soiled clothing, reach for the vinegar and baking soda. Baking soda is also great for smelly clothes like your kids' sportswear.
If you see or feel a waxy residue on your clothes after they've been washed, fabric softener may be to blame. To help remove these stains, soak your stained garments in warm water mixed with a couple of drops of dish soap. Gently rub each item against itself to loosen the stain, then rinse it thoroughly.
Excess detergent can leave white marks on black clothes, especially in high-efficiency washers where less water is used.
Although it will cause no harm to your clothes, there is a risk that the vinegar's pH may cancel out the detergent's cleaning power if you add vinegar to the start of the wash cycle. For best results, add vinegar to the rinse cycle after the detergent has done its job in the wash cycle.
Cause: Constant washing at low temperatures (40°C or less) and increasing use of detergents (enzyme-based) can lead to mould and gelatinous dirt build up inside door seals, pipes and drums. This can block hoses, cause odour in the washing machine and can leave deposits on your laundry.
Minerals in the water: Iron or manganese might be present in your water. These molecules can react with oxygen or chlorine bleach found in some detergents to form brown flakes. Try switching to a detergent that doesn't contain chlorine bleach or oxygen, and see if the problem resolves itself.
Clean the Washing Machine with Vinegar Again fill the washer with HOT water but this time add one quart of white vinegar. Same routine-set on the longest cycle and let it agitate a few minutes then sit for one hour. After the hour complete the wash and rinse cycle.
