Joanna loves using grays in her homes for the main living spaces. Some of her favorites are Sherwin Williams Mindful gray, Oyster Pearl, and Passive Gray. Repose Gray is one shade lighter than Mindful and would look fabulous for an open living space.
Agreeable Gray, by Sherwin-Williams
"Agreeable Gray SW 7029 is our most popular gray paint color because it's the perfect hue for any living space, whether it be a family room or bedroom," says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams.
Here, designers, decorators, and color experts reveal why beige is replacing gray for 2023, and how to decorate with beige for a beautiful scheme every time.
Although the color gray is commonly associated with cooler, cloudy days, there are both “cool grays” and “warm grays.” Cool grays have more blue undertones, while warm grays are grounded in yellow and brown — similar to “greige,” a combination of gray and beige.
Classic Gray vs Agreeable Gray
Agreeable Gray is a little bit darker, and it's more of a true gray color. Classic Gray is lighter and closer to off-white. Both colors are true neutrals, but Agreeable Gray has warmer green undertones than Classic Gray.
Agreeable has an LRV of 60, which is a hair lighter than Repose Gray at 58. AG has more warmth in it and also has brown/taupe undertones, leaning a bit more beige.
Agreeable Gray is extremely popular because it's light, neutral, has just a touch of color, and goes with almost everything!
'The rule of thumb being match cool greys with other "chill" colours such as blue, pale greens and cool white. And match darker grey tones with warm tones such as burnt orange, mustard, and teal.
The general rule of thumb is that skin with cool undertones look best with greys, browns, blues, greens and purples. Skin with warm undertones look best with either bright or light colors. And skin with neutral undertones looks great in bold, bright colors.
If your skin has warm undertones such as yellow, orange or olive, it's best to opt for neutral grey colors such as glossy gunmetal greys and platinum silvers. In case your skin undertone veers towards cool and neutral such a beige or pinks, then true metallic silver hues are tailor-made for you!
Natural and refined, this balanced neutral creates a clean interior for a stress-free aesthetic.
Marvelous Magenta
Though it's derived from the red family, magenta brings forward a vibrant spirit all of its own that people will be craving in the upcoming year. The Pantone Color Institute named Viva Magenta as its official color of the year for 2023 for its joyous yet powerful nature.
The consensus is that grey is out and warm neutrals will continue to dominate in 2023.
Agreeable Gray SW 7029, Sherwin-Williams
Wadden selected this color as a favorite, too, stating that Agreeable Gray is Sherwin-Williams's most popular color. "It's the perfect hue for any living space, whether it be a family room or bedroom, as it acts as a neutral backdrop," she says.
Agreeable Gray is one of the most popular Sherwin Williams grays. It's a definite go-to neutral for many people and it's another gray paint color I always suggest to customers. It's also a great paint color to go with honey oak wood, which is one of the more challenging wood tones to match with.
Universal Neutrals
Navy is the universal cool neutral. Less harsh than black and more soothing than brown, navy is a flattering color for every skin tone. It is a cool muted blue that leans toward purple.
In general, says Tierney, light gray looks best with skin that's medium. Look for shades of gray that enhance your complexion rather than hinder your glow. The shade you choose will depend on your undertone. “Cool-toned women tend to look best in gray and silver,” she notes.
No matter your skin type, you can wear pale pink, bright red, teal and dark purple with confidence, as they are all universal colors that work with all skin tones. Though these colors look great, it doesn't mean that you should show up to work or a social event wearing all four at once.
One of the most popular and timeless colour choices to pair with dove grey kitchen units is crisp white. White creates a clean and fresh contrast against the softness of the grey, and it can make your kitchen feel bright and open.
To brighten up a room with gray furniture, use lighter neutrals on the walls, such as white or beige. Or, for a more colorful scheme, opt for warming shades such as a pastel yellow or a beautiful blush pink. As well as choosing the right paint ideas, get creative with your accent colors and accessories.
What is a Warm Gray? The term “warm gray” is a funny term, since you may never think to put the two together. Since many gray paint colors can feel cold because of their blue or purple undertones, a gray paint color that has beige, yellow or red undertone is a “warm gray”.
Edgecomb Gray. Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray is lighter, cleaner, and warmer than Agreeable Gray. They are both warm greige colors with green undertones. Edgecomb (sample here)would likely be the better choice for a room with low light or Northern exposure.
2. Repose Gray has more gray in it while Agreeable Gray has more beige in it. Repose Gray can also take on a green tinge in some spaces.
Pair Agreeable Gray with rich, deep accent colors to create a highly sophisticated interior. Black, white and cream will all work extremely well with this color too if you'd prefer to keep the color palette truly minimal.
