Bacterial wilt, also known as brown rot of potato, is caused by the group of soilborne bacteria in the Ralstonia solanacearum species complex. It is an economically significant disease of solanaceous vegetables, such as potato and tomato.
Disease Symptoms
Plants often recover during evening hours when temperatures are lower, but wilt again during the heat of the day. Infected plants in the Central High Plains have additionally exhibited symptoms consisting of wavy, interveinal, necrotic lesions surrounded by bright yellow borders.
Bacteria must enter your body for them to cause an infection. So you can get a bacterial infection through an opening in your skin, such as a cut, a bug bite, or a surgical wound. Bacteria can also enter your body through your airway and cause infections like bacterial pneumonia.
Bacterial wilt cannot be controlled once a plant is infected. In particular, chemical sprays are not effective for control once plants show symptoms. If you find bacterial wilt in your garden, immediately remove infected plants, and dispose of them by burning (where allowed by law) or burying them.
In some cases, plant-to-plant spread can occur when bacteria move from roots of infected plants to roots of nearby healthy plants, often via irrigation practices.
Not all bacterial infections need to be treated — some go away on their own. When you do need treatment, healthcare providers use antibiotics. Depending on where your infection is and how serious it is, antibiotics can be prescribed as: Oral medication (pills).
Sometimes bacteria multiply so rapidly they crowd out host tissues and disrupt normal function. Sometimes they kill cells and tissues outright. Sometimes they make toxins that can paralyze, destroy cells' metabolic machinery, or precipitate a massive immune reaction that is itself toxic.

Survival of disease
The wilt bacterium is able to survive for periods up to 2 to 3 years in bare fallow soils, and for longer periods in soils cropped to non-solanaceous crops.
Wilting isn't always a sign your plant is unhappy, if you're seeing a few wilted leaves near the bottom of the plant it probably just means they've completed their lifecycle.
Remove infected crop residues and regularly disinfect tools and machinery to reduce inoculum spread. Pull out diseased plants with their roots and dispose of them away from production fields. For irrigation systems, use chlorination or other approved water treatment methods to prevent Fusarium wilt spread.
Pesticides such as algicide (3-[3-indolyl] butanoic acid), fumigants (metam sodium, 1,3-dichloropropene, and chloropicrin), and plant activators generating systemic resistance on the tomato (validamycin A and validoxylamine) have been used to control bacterial wilt.
The common name for these diseases, “wilts,” comes from the typical wilt symptoms that are attributed to drought stress, including drooping leaves and branches. The wilting leaves fade to yellow, then to brown, and then die. Depending on the disease, leaves may be shed or remain on trees.

The most deadly bacterial disease contracted by human beings is mycobacterium tuberculosis, the world's leading infectious disease with more than 1,700,000 deaths per year. As much as 13% of cases are resistant to most antibiotics, and about 6% are resistant or unresponsive to essentially all treatment.
If left untreated, some belly button infections can become serious. As mentioned above, some infections are caused by bacteria that can spread to other parts of your body (including organs and blood), causing sepsis and other deadly conditions.
Necrotizing fasciitis is a rare, but serious bacterial infection. It can develop very quickly into a life-threatening emergency. Early symptoms include fever, severe pain, and an infection that spreads quickly. People with necrotizing fasciitis need immediate hospital care, antibiotics, and surgery.
The final stage of infection is known as convalescence. During this stage, symptoms resolve, and a person can return to their normal functions. Depending on the severity of the infection, some people may have permanent damage even after the infection resolves.
Symptoms in case of acute Bacterial Infections may get resolved spontaneously in a duration of approx. two weeks, without undergoing treatment. However, in chronic cases when the symptoms persist for a longer duration, such as for 10 or more days, there is a need for the consultation with a doctor.
