TLDR: There's really no “right” or “wrong” height at which you should hang your kitchen shelves. Honestly, as long as you like the look and you can reach your items, you're good to go! But the “standard” we'd recommend would be about 18 inches above your countertop surface and/or 54 inches from the floor.
As a reference, standard shelf spacing is between 8 to 12 inches.
How High Should Over The Toilet Shelves Be? The cabinet or shelf you install above your toilet should be two feet above the tank. Also, the bottom shelf should be high enough so you can remove the tank lid when necessary.

The standard height for upper cabinets from the floor is 54 inches, or 4 feet and 6 inches. This means the bottom of the upper cabinets should be this far from the floor. This comes from the sum of 34-and-a half-inch base cabinets, a 1-and-a-half inch thick countertop, and an 18-inch backsplash.
A cabinet or shelf above a toilet should be about 2 feet above the tank. Shelves above a kitchen counter should be about 18″ to 23″, with about 15″ in between shelves.
Usually, when we think about floating shelves, something at eye-level comes to mind, but that's not the only place that the shelving can go. If there is an open space beneath your bathroom sink, it could be the perfect spot for a floating shelf and that extra towel storage space you've been trying to find.
Although generally, 12-15 inches is suitable for any environment, if the item you are going to put is larger than these dimensions, it may not fit. Then you will need to use a deeper shelf. For example, bookshelves are mostly 10 to 12 inches, while standard furniture shelves are 16 to 20 inches.
Since they need to be positioned 18 inches above the countertops, choosing kitchen wall cabinets is a decision to be made after selecting both base cabinets, countertops, and filler layer (if any). The height of the cabinet above a kitchen sink hangs between 24-inches and 36-inches above the countertop.
As such, the height for a vanity unit with a vessel sink on it is about 76cm from floor to benchtop (30 inches). However, the height of your vanity with a vessel sink will depend on how big your actual vessel sink is. They usually add up to about 12cm or 15cm, so try and get that to line up between 81-91cm.
OVERHANG - The countertop extends over the edge of the sink on all sides by approximately 1/8" - 1/4". Use caution with this installation to be sure that accessories such as colanders or cutting boards will fit properly. REVEAL - The countertop edge sits approximately 1/8" - 1/4" back from the edgeof the sink rim.
Design tip: If you're wondering how high to place floating kitchen shelves, I typically like to place the first shelf about 18″ from the countertop. And if doing a 2nd shelf, I match the height of the bottom of the hood surround (typically 32″ from the countertop).
Open shelving is great for small or awkward spaces in your bath design. Closed cabinetry could look too heavy or provide less storage space if you're slotting it into a narrow or sloped area. Open shelving looks airy and takes anything from books to towels to candles in a color and style to suit you.
Standard bathroom vanity height starts at 32” and goes up to 36”, with 34” typically leaning towards the new universal average.
Get shelving that'll make your bathroom look neat and efficient. What we suggest are 14" deep shelves. By getting deeper shelving, your things won't look as if they're hanging at the edge, which they will be if you choose 12-inchers. If you want more glamourous shelves, then choose 19- or 24-inchers.
Behind toilet shelves are an excellent design choice to add storage space to a tiny bathroom without compromising the floor area. Over-the-toilet storage shelves give you more space for your toiletries while adding a bit of personality to your powder room.
Generally, upper cabinets are mounted with the bottom edge being 54-inches above the floor. That means if you have 8-foot ceilings, your upper cabinets would be 42-inches tall, while a 9-foot ceiling has 54 inches available.
To get the right balance of style and substance be sure to mix both practical and decorative items. When considering what to put on open shelves in a kitchen, for example, mix up useful items such as serving bowls, mugs and recipe books with decorative items such as planters, artwork and a sculpted vase.
As far as shelf size, a depth of 10 or 12 inches fits most functions without concern of drooping in the middle, while length should be determined based on where you want to install yours. If you want a long span but are concerned about weight, install adjacent, identical floating shelves, or opt for bracket supports.
Shop around your home for items that can add dimension and personality to kitchen floating shelves. Grab a potted plant from the living room, and pull a few cookbooks off a shelf. Gather vases, trays, candlesticks, and other decorative accents that coordinate with your kitchen's color palette.
