Leviticus 14:8-9 He who is to be cleansed shall wash his clothes, shave off all his hair, and wash himself in water, that he may be clean.
Notice what Moses is told to do: ". . . and let them wash their clothes." In the New Testament, clean, washed clothes symbolize the righteous acts of the saints. In this instance, they physically had to wash their clothes—to purify them.
Biblical Principles for Dress. The principle of covering the body rather than exposing it. 2 Timothy 2:9. Clothes should never be worn that expose (see through), or unduly accentuate body parts, or do not cover our nakedness (Biblically we are naked when we expose the torso or thigh).
Firstly, the act of washing the feet serves as a picture of Jesus' ultimate mission: to serve humanity through His humble death on a cross, a death that washes us clean from all sin. Secondly, Jesus intends His demonstration of humility to serve as an example to His disciples (and anyone who reads the passage).
People in Bible times knew all about hand-washing clothes. They may have used rocks and sticks to beat the clothing, and soap made from lye and animal fat.
Jesus answered, "A person who has had a bath needs only to wash his feet; his whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you." For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.
The Old Testament requires immersion of the body in water as a means of purification in several circumstances, for example: And when the zav is cleansed of his issue, then he shall number to himself seven days for his cleansing, and wash his clothes; and he shall bathe his flesh in running water, and shall be clean.
Peter is offended by his master acting like a slave, but Jesus responds that washing is necessary for those who follow Him—and not all of those present are clean. That subtly points to Judas, who has already made plans to betray Jesus.
The Priestly laws of Leviticus (so called because they were probably written by priests) require bathing to purify oneself from various things that were considered contaminating, such as skin disease ( Lev 14:8-9 ), sexual intercourse ( Lev 15:18 ), and certain bodily discharges (for example, Lev 15:5-6 ).
The relevant biblical verses (Leviticus 19:19 and Deuteronomy 22:11) prohibit wearing wool and linen fabrics in one garment, the blending of different species of animals, and the planting together of different kinds of seeds (collectively known as kilayim).
The Bible doesn't teach a dress code.
Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight” (1 Peter 3:3-4).
It comes down to your heart. Leviticus 19:28 says You shall not make any cuts on your body [in mourning] for the dead, nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves; I am the Lord. In other scriptures, God punished the Israelites for wearing earrings because they were doing it at a feast to the idol, Baal.
We are called to dress modestly to honor our bodies, not because we're ashamed of them! Modesty matters to God, because we matter to God. He wants our bodies treated with the same honor that he bestows upon them.
There were two things God told them to do. They were to wash their clothes. By washing their clothes, the Israelites were demonstrating their understanding that God was Holy and that to meet with Him required holiness. They were to refrain from sexual activity.
That by washing is signified a cleansing from the impurities referred to, is evident in Isaiah:-- Wash you, make you clean, put away the evil of your doings from before Mine eyes, cease to do evil (Isa. 1:16) where it is evident that to wash themselves means to make themselves pure and to put away evils.
John 13:2–17 recounts Jesus' performance of this action. In verses 13:14–17, Christ instructs His disciples: If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.
Peter refused to eat what he saw because the clean animals in the vision were mixed with unclean ones and thus became defiled. Many interpreters suppose that God cleansed all animals for Peter, but remember that there were two kinds of animals in the vision.
Our fellowship with Christ is impacted by unconfessed sin. Those who are "clean" are those who've experienced spiritual cleansing. For such people, only the minor foot-washing is needed. But those who've never been "bathed" entirely are the unsaved—like Judas, who is "unclean." Context Summary.
Isaiah 1:16
"Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes.
Clothing provides a measure of comfort and protection from the elements. It hides shame and deformity. Biblically, God uses it to symbolize righteousness (Revelation 19:8). He instructs the Laodicean to dress himself in the holiness of God to cover his spiritual nakedness, self-righteousness.
Regular washing of clothes and bedding, helps to remove any bacteria, dirt, fleas, mites and other irritants or infection. Washing of clothes and bedding can help reduce the incidence of infectious diseases, such as diarrhoeal disease, respiratory infections, scabies and other skin infections.
Matthew 23:25-28
First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean. 27 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean.
Since the 7th century, Islam has always placed a strong emphasis on hygiene. Other than the need to be ritually clean in time for the daily prayer through Wudu and Ghusl, there are a large number of other hygiene-related rules governing the lives of Muslims.
Those with the means would often use toothpicks, twigs, or small brushes to clean their teeth manually. While these methods may not have been as effective as modern practices, they were a testament to the human desire for healthy teeth and a captivating smile.
