Baking soda is a powerful option, as it absorbs the unpleasant odor. Sprinkling baking soda directly on the urine stain before laundering can significantly reduce the smell.
Try a cup of white vinegar in the wash cycle. It's one of the cheapest solutions. Great on removing urine smells too.
In the facility where I work the staff uses a product called Periwash to control the smell of Urine. It works well.
3. Soak In Baking Soda (or Vinegar) If the odor persists, fill a sink, bucket, or tub with water and baking soda and allow your clothes or bedding to soak for 15 – 30 minutes. White Vinegar can be used as an alternative.
Borax and laundry baking soda. 50/50 mix. Works every time. For any kind of nasty odor.
Make a solution of baking soda, peroxide and any dish detergent. The combination of the three is often powerful enough to drive away strong urine smells. The solutions is eight fluid ounces of peroxide, three tablespoons of baking soda, and a few drops of dish detergent.

It's a byproduct of the age-related breakdown of certain chemicals, including omega-7 unsaturated fatty acids. Research indicates that 2-nonenal is only detectable in people over 40 and increases with age. The compound seems to be responsible for the odor associated with older adults.
