In 2022, greige (gray + beige) is the new gray in terms of wood flooring color trends. This trend of brown, beige, and a touch of gray has taken off in the past year. Greige has the minimalist feel of gray with the depth of beige.
“Mid- to dark-brown wood floors are starting to have a moment,” says Marc Bacher, founder of Scandinavian hardwood floor company Stuga. While light-colored floors are beloved for their ability to make a space feel bigger and more open, darker brown hues have become more popular ever since the pandemic hit.
Tile planks and engineered vinyl planks are the two standouts for this living room flooring trend. Both of these materials are water-proof which make them great for not just the living room, but other areas that may have moisture like the bathroom and kitchen.
12mm is much more impact resistant than 8mm. Sharp items that accidentally fall on a thicker base will have very little effect on it. That's the reason why people prefer 12mm laminate in high traffic areas.
A choice of timeless hardwood floor colors
Brown Maple floors have hues of rich gold, amber and brown. Cherry floors feature a burnished auburn color that will darken over time. Hickory offers hues from lighter blonde sapwood to cocoa brown and beige heartwood. Red Oak comes in deep, salmon tones.

Since a laminate floor is a floating floor, a subfloor that has a peak or valley of over 1/8th of an inch within 40 inches of grade is not good. A thicker plank can provide superior acoustics. Because the plank is thicker, sound doesn't travel as well. A thicker plank provides better impact resistance.
Thicker laminate flooring doesn't mean it's more durable. It will, however, be more resistant to warping and other conditions. A thickness of 8 to 12 mm is one of the most advised thickness levels for laminate flooring.
