If your fan is in Winter mode, it should be spinning clockwise. The air won't be cooling as it is in Summer mode. So if you don't feel a cool breeze coming off your fan, then you are in Winter mode. You don't want to cool the air down in Winter, rather you want to draw the air up.
During summer months, your ceiling fan blades should be set to spin counterclockwise. When your ceiling fan spins quickly in this direction, it pushes air down and creates a cool breeze. This helps keep a room's temperature consistent throughout the day and reduces the need for an air conditioner to run constantly.
Ceiling fan direction winter = clockwise (updraft). Ceiling fan direction summer = counterclockwise (downdraft). Fans with pull chains have a reversing fan switch that you'll use to change the direction.
There are two settings on your thermostat to control the fan – auto or on. AUTO means that the fan turns on automatically only when your system is heating or cooling air. Once the thermostat reaches the desired temperature, the entire system shuts off until the next cycle.

Flip the switch in the other direction.
If it's a vertical (up/down) switch, the down position is the ceiling fan direction for summer, and the up position is the direction for winter. (Think pushing air down and pulling air up.)

When exploring how to circulate air with fans, use the walls. Aim fans and air circulators to angle off of the walls, creating a wind pattern that keeps hot and cold air mixing. It's important not to place them too close to the furniture, however, as doing so will block the air flow entirely.
In summer and hotter months, your ceiling fan blades should rotate counterclockwise. When fan blades turn counterclockwise, they push cooler air down in a column. This creates a “wind chill” effect. To maximize this effect, run your fan at its highest speed.
Large Ceiling Fans for Expansive Areas
For such spaces, large ceiling fans with CFM ratings of 7,000 or more and a blade pitch of 12.5 to 16 degrees are ideal. A larger blade span, typically around 60 inches or more, is recommended to ensure extensive air movement.
Fans with solid-state controls, for example, will only run at preset speeds such as low, medium, and high and cannot be controlled using a remote. The best thing you can do to improve your ceiling fan's slow speed is to replace the speed controller with a compatible one.
A typical fan can use anything from 25 watts for a small fan to around 125 watts for a larger one. This means that a single fan can use anywhere between 0.2 kWh (kilowatt-hour) to 1 kWh per hour. The actual amount of power used depends on the size of the fan, the speed it's set at, and the amount of time it's running.
