Despite their name, American cockroaches are native to Africa and the Middle East. They are believed to have been introduced to the Americas only from the 17th century AD onward as a result of human commercial patterns, including the Atlantic slave trade.
The fecal spots work like fecal trails to attract other cockroaches to a location. The spots contain an aggregation pheromone which other cockroaches “sniff” out using their antennae. The pheromone tells newly arriving cockroaches that this is the spot to find food, water, hiding places, and others of their kind.
It's because the state of their poop depends on what they eat. Cockroaches, especially German cockroaches and oriental roaches, inhabit filthy places with a lot of dampness and discard their feces as smear marks rather than solid poop. That's because these roaches consume filth which is greasy or pasty.
In general, roach droppings look like little black or dark brown pellets, very similar in appearance to coffee grounds or crushed pepper. When fresh, these pellets are usually round or oval and, unlike coffee grounds or pepper, these pellets stick to surfaces and might smear.
Generally speaking, cockroach droppings are dark brown or black pellets. They're either roundish chunks or oval-shaped, and much of what you find will simply appear as smears and stains on the surfaces that cockroaches have been crawling over.

Available food is the single most powerful reason cockroaches enter our homes. These insects aren't picky eaters—almost anything left out on your kitchen counters is fair game to them, and they'll be drawn to it.
Baking soda and sugar
You can try this method to eliminate the producers of the eggs. In a small container (or a bottle), make a mixture of equal parts baking soda and sugar. Sprinkle it at places where you've seen cockroaches. This is one of the easiest roach killers.
Bleach is technically capable of both repelling and killing cockroaches, but it is much less practical of a solution. It is only effective in killing cockroaches that you are able to catch. The most of your population will remain safely hidden in the corners and crevices of your home.
Add some food like a small piece of meat or some sweet stuff like chocolate on the roach bait in the bowl. Keep the bowl near one of the hiding places of roaches. To cover all the hiding places, you'll need multiple bowls with sticky roach trap and food. The smell of the food will draw the roaches out.
Daytime Dens
Because cockroaches dislike light, they disappear during the daytime to dark places, including the undersides of appliances like stoves and refrigerators, underneath sinks or other installations, near plumbing, inside light switches and behind wall paneling or doorjambs.
The bedroom is full of dead skin and hair that many people often overlook. Underneath dressers and inside closets are popular hiding spots for roaches, as it offers shelter and food – as long as you don't clean those places.
Boric acid: Used correctly, boric acid is one of the most effective roach killers. It's odorless, has low toxicity to pets, and since it isn't repellent to roaches, they will not seek to avoid it, crawling through it repeatedly until it kills them.
Water and Soap Spray — A simple mixture of water and dish soap will dry the roaches out, killing them. Mix equal parts into a spray bottle and have at it! Lay Down Eggshells — it may sound a bit odd, but cockroaches are repelled by eggshells, too. Place some inside the cabinets and this should stop them from entering.
Distilled vinegar does not kill or repel roaches, making it completely ineffective. Distilled vinegar will help keep your kitchen clean, giving cockroaches less to snack on. However, roaches can live for months at a time without any food at all, and they will eat almost anything to survive.
Cedar is a natural product that repels roaches because its harsh scent acts as a deterrent. Cedar oil and cedar chips repel roaches.
Not only is peppermint oil a natural cockroach repellent—it's also toxic to roaches (and for the record, to bed bugs, too). The same Auburn University study found that mint oil killed both German and American cockroaches when they came into contact with it for an extended period.
