The Schlage Home App for Apple iOS and Android lets you control and monitor your compatible locks from anywhere using your smartphone. The app guides you through the setup process and puts complete access and control of your Schlage smart locks at your fingertips.
To access your lock remotely from your phone or with voice commands, you'll need to sync it with a compatible smart home hub. The most common hubs for the Schlage Connect lock are Samsung SmartThings, Ring Alarm, Nexia and Wink.
Voice Control
You can connect any Schlage Connect lock to Alexa via a compatible hub, get the app installed on your phone and then lock and unlock your door via voice commands. You can also check your lock's status via Alexa app on your smartphone.
To pair your Schlage Connect Smart Deadbolt with Samsung SmartThings, open the SmartThings app on your mobile device and tap on Home. Under Things, choose Add a Thing and follow the directions in the app. At the end of enrollment, a green light on your lock indicates success.
Because the Schlage Connect is powered by Z-wave, you need to pair it with a smart home hub, like Wink, to extend communication with your home's wi-fi. This allows you to communicate with your lock via the Wink app when you are remote.
The Z-wave Plus-enabled Schlage Connect® Smart Deadbolt works with most Z-Wave smart home hubs, including Samsung SmartThings.

The Schlage Sense lock is compatible with HomeKit straight out of the box, at which point you can control the lock with the Apple Home app, create scenes and use Siri when you're within Bluetooth range.
To lock and unlock your Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt from anywhere on both Android and iPhone®, add the Schlage Sense WiFi Adapter* to your home WiFi network. The WiFi adapter is a simple wall plug-in that connects to your home WiFi signal, making it easy for you to set up.
To set up remote connectivity with Apple HomeKit using a compatible Apple TV, iPad or HomePod, open the Schlage Home app on your iOS device and choose “Continue with HomeKit.” Once you've chosen the “Continue with HomeKit” option, follow the instructions provided in the Schlage Home app.
Log in to the Amazon Alexa app and enter your password to enable this feature. Then you will be required to set a four-digit PIN, which must be spoken before Alexa will unlock the door. When you say, “Alexa, unlock the front door,” Alexa will ask for the PIN. If the PIN is correct, Alexa will unlock the door.

No, you won't need a hub for your echo dot to operate devices which do not require a hub (such as nest thermostats which can contain their own hub for other devices too). Those are devices with built in wifi which can attach to your home wifi signal, so no hub is needed.
SmartThings isn't being discontinued. Currently, Samsung is making it into a more powerful and “universal” platform. Instead of developing products of their own, Samsung SmartThing decided to ditch their legacy products and apps to focus on improving the features and security of their platform.
Control your home with voice commands
Amazon's Alexa is compatible with hundreds of smart home appliances. If you have an Amazon smart speaker, you can create your own smart home hub with Alexa.
