If you use tap water, you may notice that your plants are not growing as tall and strong to the best of their abilities. To reduce the risk of harmful chemicals in your water, allow your tap water to sit out for at least 24 hours before using it to water your plants. This allows the chlorine to dissipate.
Leaving water out overnight also allows added elements in city tap water that plants don't appreciate, like chlorine, an opportunity to dissipate. Again, it's likely not necessary — there's not enough chlorine in most municipal tap water that you'd see an effect in your plants. But it can't hurt!
Step 2: If the soil is dry, fill a watering can or vessel with room temperature water. Some plants can be sensitive to tap water; try leaving your water out overnight before watering.

Bacteria will grow more in warm water, especially if any chlorine has evaporated. Therefore it's best to discard any warm water that's been left open for more than 12 hours. To help prevent your glass of water tasting stale or smelling off, simply keep it covered.

The best time to water outdoor plants is in the morning when temperatures are usually cooler. This gives the plants time to absorb the water so they can get through a long, hot day. The second-best time is late in the afternoon or early in the evening. Try not to water at night.
Iron Bacteria produce a sticky slime which is typically rusty in color, but may be yellow, brown, or grey. This slime sticks to well pipes, water treatment equipment, and plumbing fixtures. Standing water such as a toilet tank is a common place to find this “slime”. It may appear as “orange snot” floating in the water.

Best Water for Houseplants
Most tap water should be fine for houseplants unless it is softened because softened water contains salts that can build up in the soil over time and cause problems. Chlorinated water is also safe for most houseplants, but if you have a filtration system, that's much better for your plants.
The downside of bottom watering plants
In terms of plant health, there aren't a lot of drawbacks to watering plants from the bottom. However, one consideration would be that continual bottom watering could lead to a build up of minerals and excess salts in the growing medium, especially if you're using tap water.
You'll be able to tell if your plant needs watering by observing the dryness of the soil surface, as well more accurate techniques like poking your finger in the soil and picking pots up to determine their weight. You can also use a moisture sensor to quickly and accurately check soil moisture levels.
