Flip it Halfway Through You should always flip seafood once when it is halfway done. Flipping it at the halfway point is the best way to prevent it from burning or overcooking.
More good news! When you cook fish in the air fryer, unlike most foods, there is no need to flip it over halfway through the cooking time.
It is necessary to flip the food especially when it is full or the food is thick. Usually the heat is from upper size.
Mistake: Forgetting to wrap up your fish
Clare Andrews points out that fish drying out in the air fryer is a common issue, but luckily the solution is easy: Just wrap your fish up.
Arrange 1/2 the sticks in the basket, making sure none are touching. Spray the top of each stick with cooking spray. Cook in the preheated air fryer for 5 minutes. Flip fish sticks and cook an additional 5 minutes.
2. Spray the Basket Lightly with Vegetable Oil Spray. The next protective measure you can take is an obvious one: spraying the basket lightly with vegetable oil spray. We recommend doing this with foods that are prone to sticking, including fried chicken, chicken Parmesan, and our better-than-boxed fish sticks.
Wash the fish fillets in cold running water and pat them dry with paper towels. In a small bowl, add olive or avocado oil, garlic, parsley, ground black pepper, sea salt and chilli flakes (if using) to make the seasoning. Whisk lightly. Preheat your air fryer to 400 F and set the timer to 12 minutes.
Don't overcrowd your air fryer basket. This allows the fish to get crispy all over. If you don't have an air fryer, you can achieve similar results in a convection oven (see directions in the recipe), but I found that the air fryer delivers a crisper finish faster.
Adding a small amount of water to the bottom of the air fryer can create steam, which keeps the inside of the food tender while allowing the outside to crisp up. For baked goods, such as pastries or bread, a little water can mimic the humid environment of a traditional oven, giving a softer texture or a better rise.
While air fryers are popular, the most expensive models can start to get a little pricey, which could undermine their status as a budget item. Taking to social media to share their opinions, many people have revealed that they reckon halogen ovens are the best option for frugal cooking.
"You don't have to flip the salmon, which you do in most other cooking techniques because it does cook so quickly." Depending on the thickness of your fillet, air fryer salmon only takes about 10 minutes to cook, landing itself a spot on the easy weeknight dinners list.
6. SHAKE OR FLIP FOOD. Most air fryers require you to shake the basket at least once during the air fry process to ensure every bit is crisped and browned to perfection. Some recipes call for flipping or shaking every 5 minutes, so don't stray too far from your air fryer while cooking.
Preheat the air fryer at 400 degrees for 3-5 minutes. Place the fish on the rack. Set the time for 12 minutes. Serve it with lemon and the salad you prefer.
I like to place mine skin-side down, but skin-side up is also an option. If you'd like, place a few lemon slices under each piece of salmon. Air fry the salmon for about 8 minutes at 350˚F.

CAN YOU COOK FISH IN AN AIR FRYER? Yes. Fillets of equal size are the best option, since this will yield the most consistent cooking, but you can also cook fish wrapped in tinfoil. You can also cook fish cakes and fish fingers in an air fryer – especially important if you have young children.
Remember, air fryers need a lot less fat than traditional frying pans too. You can fry with water too. Just add a little water to the bottom of your air fryer to use the natural juices that run off from meat, fish and vegetables. You don't need oil to roast meat, fish, and vegetables in your air fryer either.
Just place a piece of parchment paper at the bottom of your air fryer basket. Parchment paper has a special, non-stick coating that not only allows it to withstand high heat, but prevents foods from sticking to it.
The spray can be applied directly to an air fryer's wire tray or basket. Made with no artificial preservatives, flavors or colors, PAM Air Fryer Spray can also be applied directly to uncooked food to promote browning and crisping of your wings, tenders, fries and more.
Do not overcrowd your air fryer basket, or your fish will steam rather than fry. Make sure when spraying, the fish is fully covered in oil and all seasoning has been fully covered with no flour spots showing. If flour spots are showing, you will not get that good golden color.
A slice of bread in the bottom of your air fryer can help collect grease without making a mess.
