StemFinder is an easy-to-use app from Total Maintenance Solutions-South that allows professional plumbers and do-it-yourselfers alike to identify virtually any faucet stem with the tap of your smart phone.
Partelligence uses artificial intelligence (AI) to properly identify plumbing parts with advanced image recognition. Simply provide an image of the old faucet stem or cartridge to quickly find the correct replacement part.
To find your faucet type, simply measure the distance between the center of the faucet handles. A distance of 4 inches between handles indicates the faucet is a centerset type. If the distance between handles is 8 to 16 inches, that falls into the widespread faucet category.
However, if you can't get your hands on your original packaging, there's a chance you can still identify your faucet. On nearly all Moen faucets, a general family series number can be found embezzled on the back of the spout. This usually starts with the letter M followed by a series of numbers.
The model number is on all packaging, some faucets, and some installation instructions provided with your faucet. Tub and shower faucets are not as easy to put tags on, but the series may be found on the wall plate beneath the handle giving a good start. On the packaging, look near the UPC code or the top of the box.
Observing this part of your faucet is often a good way to at least narrow down the brand possibilities, as different companies have different broach sizes and shapes. If the broach is " D " shaped, you may have a Delta faucet on your hands. Other brands that have " D " shaped brooches include Moen and Mixet.
Kitchen Faucets
The series number may be stamped on the back side of the spout, near the base where it swivels on the sink. If you point your spout aerator (where the water comes out) so that it is facing the 3 o'clock position, the series number should be located on the opposite side at the 9 o'clock position.
Once you have the faucet out, count the holes and measure the distance apart. If there is only one hole in your sink you'll need a faucet designed with the handle as part of the faucet. If you have three holes but want a decorative set of water lines above the sink, select a “bridge faucet" that mixes the hot and cold.
The next thing you want to consider is the brand of the faucet in question. This makes a huge difference in the likelihood that a repair will be successful! We'll talk more about brands in a minute, but if the faucet is made by a reputable, well-known manufacturer, then you have a better shot at repairing it.
It's often imprinted on the faucet itself, the handle, or the escutcheon (the decorative plate beneath the handle). Check Documentation: If you have the original paperwork or manual, it will usually have the model number.
So, are bathroom faucets universal? In many ways, yes. Most faucets share standardized features such as connection size, valve types, and installation hole configurations. However, differences in design, handle types, spouts, and finishes can make faucet selection a personal and sometimes brand-specific choice.
Best Faucet Brands According to Plumbers
The best brands according to plumbers are Moen, Delta, and Kohler. Plumbers prefer these brands due to their quality, their reliability, and their availability.
Measure the countertop behind the sink, and the diameter of the pre-drilled holes and the distance between their centers. The hole dimensions are how to determine what size faucet will fit, before you buy the faucet.
Faucet Design Details
Color coordinate - Don't forget to consider matching your sink and faucet for a cohesive, monochromatic look. Traditionally that's matching a stainless steel sink with a faucet, but you can incorporate more color into the kitchen with Silgranit.
Look at the markings on the faucet.
Kitchen faucets may have a number on the back of the water spout. Lavatory faucets may have a series of numbers on the front curve under the water spout. Some faucets may have a removable handle cap with the word Moen imprinted on it.
Consistent Internal Mechanisms
A hallmark of Delta Faucets is their consistent internal design across different models. Delta maintains uniformity, simplifying repairs and part replacements, unlike other manufacturers that complicate designs with varied internal parts.
The Moen logo has been specially created for our brand. It features the waterdrop symbol, the Moen wordmark and our long-established tagline. The full-color logo is always preferred and should be used whenever possible.
Moen offers a balance of user-friendly designs and water-saving technologies, making it a versatile choice for a broad audience. Delta excels in combining functionality with water efficiency, appealing to environmentally conscious consumers looking for durable and innovative bathroom fixtures.
