Less plastic - more great tasting water
Bought this to replace my previous plastic Brita filter - I find these very flimsy and cracked easily (I've broken two in the past). I wanted a glass option so we are using less plastic around our food so this was perfect.
The proposed class-action lawsuit, which was filed Wednesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claims that deceptive advertising has led customers to falsely believe that Brita products filter such contaminants as arsenic, nitrate, hexavalent chromium and certain PFAS, or “forever chemicals,” from tap water.

Brita filters are ineffective against substances such as nitrates, bacteria, and certain chemicals. If your water supply is contaminated with these, you may need to explore additional treatment options.
Reverse Osmosis Water
Reverse osmosis is one of the most common filtration methods to purify drinking water. Therefore, this type of water ranks among the healthiest to drink because it eliminates hazardous contaminants, such as lead and arsenic.
Do not put in the mixed recycling bins. Put in the Garbage or check out the TERRACYCLE mail-in recycling program. Brita® has teamed up with TerraCycle® to bring you a national recycling solution for Brita® filters, pitchers, dispensers, bottles, faucet systems, and packaging.
Here's how the main technologies compare, and why reverse osmosis leads the field for microplastic filtration. Crystal Quest recommendation: For comprehensive microplastic and nanoplastic removal, reverse osmosis is the clear winner.
Although both filtered water and bottled water can provide healthier, better-tasting water, the cost-effectiveness and smaller environmental impact of filtered water beats out bottled water at every turn.
The PUR filter removes more contaminants compared to the Brita filter. However, during our taste tests and TDS tests Brita performed notably better. Both Brita & PUR offer a variety of pitcher sizes and types.

Daily use of the Brita glass filter carafe
At the beginning of the article, I already shared my feelings about this pitcher. It's an investment that's worth it. Beyond the filtration aspect, which mainly depends on the installed filter, I find this pitcher successful in both design and use.
The BRITA water dispenser features advanced filtration technology that effectively reduces impurities and chemicals in your water, such as chlorine, sediment and metals.
If safety or water quality is your main concern, consider purchasing a filtration system. When public drinking water is compromised in some way because of catastrophic events, such as severe flooding, or improperly monitored and treated as in Flint, Michigan, bottled water becomes necessary.
Of the pitchers in our tests, three—Brita Denali with Elite filter, Culligan Zero Water ZD-012-RP, and ZeroWater Ready-Pour ZD-010RP—are certified to NSF standards to reduce lead, chlorine, and PFAS.
Made from 60% recycled glass and 100% bio-based plastic, the Brita uses 100% borosilicate glass that's extremely lightweight and robust. I really liked the fact that this glass doesn't absorb odours or tastes and that the jug is dishwasher-safe up to 50ºC (apart from the SmartLight LED).
According to Brita, their faucet systems and new Longlast+ filters can remove up to 99% of lead. This is the only filter that removes lead; Brita's other filters remove other contaminants, including chlorine, asbestos and benzene.
Filtered water can be safely stored in the fridge for 3-5 days, as long as it's kept in a clean, sealed container. This makes it a more sustainable way to store water while keeping it fresh. Filtering also helps remove any unwanted tastes or odours that can develop over time.
The Stream Filters
Compared to the standard water filter for Brita pitcher, these are referred to as the “gray ones.” They have a similar lifespan to the standard/basic filters, with an efficacy period of two months or 40 gallons of water.
The shelf life of an unused Brita® filter is indefinite as long as its pouch is intact and sealed. However, we do recommend pre-soaking older Original (Standard) filters in water for 15 minutes before using.
To extend the life of your reusable Brita filter, try the following tips: Rinse the filter with cold water before each use. Store the filter in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposing the filter to sunlight or heat.
