The standard base cabinet widths are 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 26.25, 27, 30, 33, 26, 39 and 42-inches. Filler cabinets are available in 6 and 9-inch widths.
Standard sink base cabinet widths
Standard sink base cabinet dimensions range from 30 to 42 inches wide. 30 inches is the standard single basin sink base width. 33 inches is the typical double-basin, offset sink cabinet size.
Standard kitchen cabinet heights include 12, 15, 18, 30, 36 and 42 inches tall; depth ranges from 12 to 18 inches. Typically installed 18 inches above countertops, 54 inches above floor and 24 inches above stove.
When you go to measure the space on your kitchen cabinet where the door will go, you'll likely get the dimensions 28-inches high by 19-inches wide. This is the standard kitchen cabinet door size. However, most cabinet doors are might a bit smaller so that they're able to fit properly.
Most kitchen cabinets are about 24 inches wide, but some can be as narrow as 8 inches or even less, and others may be 36 inches or more. The width of a cabinet is determined mainly by the size of the room and how much storage space you need. Standard widths are practical and used frequently.
Wall cabinets measuring from 9 to 21 inches have a single door while 24 to 36 inches will feature double doors. Depth: Wall cabinets typically have a depth of 12 inches. The wall cabinet above the refrigerator has a depth of 12 or 24 inches.
Lay the tape measure along the bottom of the cabinet; place the end against the back of the cabinet, then pull out the tape until the front edge of the cabinet to find the front-to-back (depth) measurement. Next, measure the total outer width of your cabinet.
Using 36" Tall Upper Cabinets
This is by far the safest choice when designing around an 8-ft ceiling. The cabinets won't go all the way to the ceiling, which gives you the chance to add crown molding.
The standard space between the countertop and upper cabinets is around 18 inches. This measurement allows for convenient use of countertop appliances and provides ample space for food preparation.
In general your sink should be at least 2-3” smaller than your cabinet size. For example, a 36” sink base cabinet can easily fit a 33” sink.
To determine the maximum sink size for your base cabinet, measure the interior of your cabinet and subtract two to three inches from each dimension. A 36″ base cabinet can handle a 33″ sink at most; a 30″ cabinet should be fitted with a sink no larger than 27″ wide.

Find the total height and depth of each cabinet.
For accuracy, figure out the depth by measuring from the outside of each cabinet, not the inside. Make sure to include any toe kicks, countertops, frameless doors, or other appendages in these measurements.
Measure the narrowest width, between your hinges, of the cabinet. If you only have one door or a center frame, measure from the hinge to the frame. Our units have drawers that will extend out of your cabinet. You will use the width dimension to determine which and how many units will fit side-by-side in your space.
Hence why it's so important to know that a 10×10 kitchen should always include 12 cabinets.
feet. Taking the common size of a kitchen (10% to 15% of total floor space) this means an average kitchen in an average home is 240 to 360 square feet. Also, this doesn't include condos or apartments which have kitchens that are only 100 to 200 square feet on average.
Measure the cabinet opening: Measure in the same fashion as for a single door, getting the total width and height from the inside edge of the cabinet opening. Add space for door overlay: Add 1 inch to the height of the opening. For the width, add 1 inch to your total width and then divide by 2.
average door width is 36 inches, and the average door height is 80 inches. When creating accessible doors by ADA building codes, the door opening's clear width is required to be at least 32 inches and with a maximum width of 48 inches.
The most common width however is 1-1/2". If you make the frame 1-1/2" wide you can easily use a 1-1/4" overlay European hinge leaving 1/4" exposed frame. A 1/4" reveal is typically the minimum gap you can have between doors that will permit the hinge to turn the door without hitting an adjoining door or wall.
These limits have evolved over time to insure that the cabinets and the doors will be reliable and trouble-free. The rule-of-thumb is that door heights of up-to 60 inches are seldom a reliability problem. Door widths, however should be kept to under 24-inches.
While you may have a minimum kitchen size or a big kitchen, on an average, the standard kitchen dimensions are around 8 feet wide X 10 feet long. It takes into consideration the total size of the kitchen, the kitchen platform size, and clearance to move around without any hindrance.
Most kitchens are around 10×10 in homes under 1500 sq ft. However, in homes larger than that, they are usually near 200 sq ft, or 12×15, give or take. Even in the largest homes though, a kitchen is rarely bigger than 20×20, or 400 sq ft.
