To keep food cold and fresh but not frozen, it should be set somewhere between 3-5°C (37-40°F). Some fridges have a temperature reading, but most have a numbered dial. This usually goes from 1 to 5, with 5 being the coldest.
The ideal fridge temperature is between 0.5°C - 5°C and the best way to keep an eye on your refrigerator temperature is with a non-mercury thermometer in the middle of the fridge.
On a refrigerator with settings numbered from 0 to 7, 7 is the coldest setting. Setting the dial to 7 will lower the temperature, making it colder, ideal for preserving food safely and extending its freshness, especially in warmer conditions or when the fridge is fully stocked.
Based on these two factors here's the number your fridge should be set on: If you're always storing plenty of food you need the colder settings (3 to 4). If you're not storing as much choose between 2 and 3. If the temperature is very low, ice will form and it may prevent air circulation.
The numbers on the fridge's temperature dial indicate the refrigerating power. Therefore, the higher the setting, the cooler the fridge will be. Choosing setting 5 will make your fridge the coldest.
It is nearly always best defined as “cooling power”. So setting it to 7 makes it coldest and 1 makes it warmest and 0 is off.

After trials we found that if the icon shows five bars, the resulting temperature is the coldest.
1 is the warmest, 7 is the coldest, and 0 is Off. At first, set the dial to 4 and allow 24 hours to pass before adjusting the temperature to your needs.
The temperature selector knob is located on the back side of the refrigerator compartment. Setting “1” means Highest temperature, warmest setting. Setting “7” (end-stop) means Lowest temperature, coldest setting.
The first time you turn the unit on, adjust the temperature control knob to "7" and run for at least 2 hours before putting foods inside. This will ensure the cabinet is thoroughly chilled before food is put in. The range of the refrigerator temperature control is from position "1" the cold to "7" the coldest.

Is there a “correct” temperature for refrigerators and freezers? Yep: A fridge temperature of 37° F will keep fresh food good for as long as possible—with no ice crystals on lettuce or bacteria breeding in raw meats. As for the freezer, a temperature of 0° F will keep foods thoroughly frozen.
1 is the warmest and 7 is the coldest. It is recommended that unless you have some special (and rational) reason to mess with the setting, just leave them at the factory settings. All the settings do is divert resources away from either the freezer or the refrigerator.
