The best method for adding the essential oils to the dryer balls is, When your laundry is completely dried, add 3-6 drops of desired essential oil to the dryer balls, toss them back in the dryer and run on an Air Fluff (non-heated) cycle for 10 minutes. You will find your laundry smelling fresh and delightful!
HOW TO USE DRYER BALLS. Disperse your dryer balls evenly among a load of laundry before starting your cycle. If you have an especially large load, add another dryer ball. If you are having difficulty with static build-up, lightly spray wool dryer balls with water prior to including them.
However, as a guide you really need a minimum of three wool laundry dryer balls for small to medium loads; five for medium to large loads; and up to a dozen for large to huge loads.
You should recharge wool dryer balls every 100 loads or so to keep them effective. But you can also wash them every once in a while to keep them fresh—you don't have to wait for them to wear down.
Freshness Galore with Lavender, Lemon, and Tea Tree Oil

Using Fabric Softener:
Fabric softeners are specially designed to add a soft, pleasant scent to your clothes while reducing static and making them feel cozy. Simply add fabric softener to your laundry during the rinse cycle and let it work its magic.
Can You Use Too Many Dryer Balls? Wool dryer balls are safe for most types of fabric, so it's usually fine to use more than the suggested number of dryer balls per load. However, keep in mind that using extra dryer balls can make your clothes dry faster than normal.
How do you know when your wool dryer balls are done? Wool dryer balls should be replaced when you notice the outer layer of felt has started to come apart.
If you want to make scented dryer balls, simply add a few drops of safe fragrance oil and let is dry completely (see section above for choosing a safe fragrance). Once the fragrance is dry, throw the dryer ball in with your clothes and run a dry cycle as you normally would.
Toss the dryer balls into the washing machine (they can be loose or contained in a mesh laundry bag) and skip the detergent. Run a gentle or delicate cycle and use hot water to clean any lingering lint thoroughly. You can let them air dry or pop them in the dryer on high heat, which will firm up the fibers.
Essential oils can last days on fabrics, especially if they are of high quality, applied properly and thoroughly, and the fabric is not then put through rigorous use (such as your gym wear).
Remember: It doesn't take a lot of essential oil to make a big impact. Begin with 2-3 drops of essential oil per dryer ball. This should give your laundry a light, fresh scent. You can add up to 5-6 drops for a stronger aroma, but be careful not to overdo it.
Fragranced Cotton Balls
Get a few tiny jars and fill each of them with a couple of cotton balls. Add a different essential oil to each container. Place them in various spots around your house. They scent small areas so nicely and add to a cozy home atmosphere.
Not all essential oils have the same risk of staining when used on dryer balls. Certain qualities make some oils less likely to leave behind spots: Light color. Darker pigmented oils like clove and cinnamon can more easily tint light fabrics.
Because of their flammable properties and the fact that dryer machines can run on pretty hot settings, you should never add essential oils directly in your dryer. We recommend putting a couple of drops of your preferred essential oil to wool dryer balls, which will be added to your load.
If the essential oils were to drop straight onto your clothes rather than into the water, it could cause a stain if the load has delicate fabrics. If you're using an unscented liquid laundry detergent, just add 20-30 drops to your full container and shake the bottle.
Step 1: Toss your dryer balls in the dryer with your wet washing. Dryer balls need space to bounce around and circulate air, so never stuff the machine too full. Step 2: Shut the dryer door and start the drying cycle. Step 3: Keep an eye on the laundry as the drying time will be shorter than you're used to.
A: I usually use 6 balls for an average load of laundry however I have used as few as 3 or 4 balls with regular clothing, socks, underwear, etc and still noticed a significantly reduced drying time.
Good quality wool dryer balls or plastic dryer balls will give you 1,000 loads of laundry, which seems like an eternity. Since you can't keep track of loads, you should replace them when they start unraveling or look scraggly. If you want your wool dryer balls to give you 1,000+ loads, take good care of them.
