If your home alarm system has a backup battery, locate the battery compartment on the alarm panel or circuit board. Open the compartment and remove the backup battery. This will ensure that you have completely disarmed the alarm.
The most common causes of a home alarm beeping are the faulty battery or your battery is getting weak. Most systems will allow to to silence the beeping by pressing the status button on your keypad, disarm your system and immediately disarm or by disarming your system by entering your code.
The alarm in your home security system is designed to be a deterrent to intruders, as well as alert occupants and draw attention to your home, whether that be from neighbours, passers-by or authorities. Systems will sound for about 5 to 10 minutes, depending on the system, before stopping and automatically re-arming.
So what do you do when your neighbour's alarm goes off? Firstly, observe and look for anything suspicious, before contacting the neighbour in question. If you notice any unusual activity or your neighbour isn't home to turn off the alarm, keep monitoring the situation as you may require police assistance.

For many of our most popular systems, beeping alarms and low battery trouble beeps can be silenced by pressing the [OFF] or [#] buttons from the keypad. If this does not work, please refer to your security system manual for specific instructions.
To disable the alarm on the KeyPad first press the Code Button (marked with a C on your KeyPad) and input your four digit code followed by the disarm button. The disarm button is located in the middle of the bottom row on the KeyPad.
Many people assume that you need to get the alarm company to remove a burglar alarm, but it's likely to be a lot cheaper to work directly with an electrician (although make sure you notify the alarm company that the alarm is being removed, so they don't think the alarm is being tampered with!).
Hardwired Smoke Alarms
Locate the main breaker panel for your home. Identify which circuit breaker powers your smoke alarms. Each breaker should be labeled, so look for something that says “smoke alarm” or something similar. Turn off the circuit breaker for your smoke alarms.
To disarm, press the “Disarm” button, followed by your 4 digit master code. o Keychain: You may also use your keyfob/remote to disarm the system. You can do this outside your home before you come in, or after you enter your home. If you do it after you enter, you will have only 30 seconds to disarm the system.
Most smoke detector and fire alarm models will include a “silence” function. Press this, and the beeping will stop. If the smoke detector/fire alarm continues to pick up on smoke after a short period has elapsed, the beeping noise will start again to ensure your safety.
Remove the AC power to the home alarm console from the wall directly. Use your console's access key (or another item such as a small screw) to unlock and open the system's backing. Lastly, disconnect at least one of the wires that are attached to the system's main battery, which is blocky and noticeable in most units.
Now locate the alarm fuse spur – this is usually located next to the alarm panel. Remove the fuse from inside – by levering open the small compartment in the front of the box, and prizing the fuse out. Your alarm will now have no mains power going to it, and it will be running off the battery only.
Go to your main control box and disconnect the battery supply, which will stop all beeping and shut your alarm system down. Once power is restored, you can reconnect your battery and your alarm system should work as before.
Open the front of the alarm panel, it may be held in place by a couple of screws. Once inside locate the battery, the battery will have two connections, a red and a black, remove both of these connections.
If you suspect that there is an actual threat in the house, find a safe place to wait for the authorities. This is a must, for a couple of reasons. First, your home security company is instantly notified when the alarm is triggered and will immediately be contacting you to assess the situation.
