How do I clean my laptop keyboard without removing keys? Use compressed air to remove debris, then clean with a slightly damp microfiber cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a cotton swab lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol.
For the cleaning part, I recommend using isopropyl alcohol (90%) in combination with a brush. Make sure to also treat areas where the liquid might have creeped into. The isopropyl alcohol will pull out any water remains and will take care of any stickiness.
Yes you absolutely can. I've done it a few times and it works great. Wd 40 is non conductive so there should be no problems (I've even tried it while it's plugged in, rgb and all) . Although as others have said, it isn't technically a lube so it won't last as long but the results are pretty good.
To remove the keycap from a keyboard, place your finger nail, small flat-head screwdriver, or knife under a corner of the key and gently pry it up. For a longer key, such as the spacebar key, try to pry as close to the center of the key as possible. In many situations, the key only snaps out partially.
How can I clean the area around and under the keys? Use compressed air to blow away loose debris between the keys. For more stubborn dirt, tilt the keyboard and gently tap its side to dislodge debris.
Can I remove keycaps without the tool? Yes, you can remove keycaps without a specialized tool by gently wiggling and lifting them or using your fingers, a plastic card, or a small flathead screwdriver to pry them upward.
Yes, isopropyl alcohol (70% or higher) is safe for cleaning most keyboard surfaces. However, avoid using it on keycap legends as it may remove the printing.
Is it safe to use disinfecting wipes on my keyboard? You can use disinfecting wipes but be cautious. Check the guidelines first, as some wipes might be too harsh and damage the keys' lettering. If you use them, make sure the wipes are not overly wet, and avoid getting liquid inside the keyboard.
USE A KEYBOARD CLEANING GEL
Clean the exposed surface with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. Ensure you use pure isopropyl alcohol to avoid any residue from additives. For deep cleaning, consult the manufacturer's guidelines.
Moisten a cotton swab with alcohol, then use the swab to clean the keys and plungers. Replace the cleaned keys to their original position. NOTE: Wait until the keyboard is completely dry before reconnecting or using it.
The most common cause of sticky keys is the buildup of dust, dirt and debris over time. If you routinely eat while working at your computer, you'll accelerate the collection of debris as small crumbs make their way under your keys.
Turning off sticky keys via settings
Open your Windows search and type Ease of Access keyboard settings. Click on the option that appears to access your keyboard settings. Under the Sticky Keys section, uncheck the box next to Turn on Sticky Keys when Shift is pressed five times.
Applying a small amount of lubricant to certain parts of the switches will minimize friction between the switch stem and housing when they rub against each other. That makes for a much smoother feel when you type, with a less scratchy, more refined sound.
Do not use petroleum jelly, such as Vaseline, to lube your switches. It will damage the plastic and degrade your switches over time. We don't recommend lubing Kailh Box switches. They have a housing design that will leak lube into your keyboard and may damage it.
Dip your cotton swab into the rubbing alcohol and begin to clean around each key post. Remember if any liquid made its way under your keys to remove the key carriers as well and soak them with the keys.
What is the lifespan of a laptop fan? This is one of those “how long is a piece of string” questions. The official answer from the fan manufacturers is “between 30,000 and 50,000 hours” before fan replacement – which equates to between 3 and 5 years of continuous use.
To clean your laptop keyboard
Note: Always spray or moisten the cloth, not the laptop. You can use a can of compressed air to blow the dust and debris from your keyboard. Alternately you can you use a hair dryer on NO heat setting instead of a can of compressed air.
While hydrogen peroxide can have cleaning and disinfecting properties, it's not recommended for cleaning a keyboard. It can be too harsh for the keyboard's materials and components. Stick to isopropyl alcohol and water or electronic-specific cleaning solutions.
Wring out a disinfecting wipe or an alcohol wipe until it is just damp, not dripping. Wipe all of the keys and keyboard surfaces. Turn the keyboard upside down to allow any trapped moisture to drip out. Allow it to air-dry completely before powering up the laptop or reconnecting it to a power source.
If you don't have a keycap puller, you can use a flathead screwdriver, butter knife, or a bent paperclip. Slide the tool underneath the key and use light force to pry it off. Wash only the keys and wipe the keyboard frame clean.
We recommend a keycap puller, (one is included with most HyperX keyboards, as well as some of our keyboard accessories). Some people will recommend using a fork or a butter knife to remove keycaps if you don't have a keycap puller.
