Home alarm monitoring is what most homeowners think of when they're considering the monthly cost of a security system. While there's a significant variance in cost, a general rule of thumb is to budget about $30 to $60 per month, although the cost can run as low as $20 and as high as $100+ per month.
ADT also gives senior discounts to AARP members. The discount takes 20 percent off of the installation cost, which usually starts at $100. On top of that, ADT takes $2 off of the monthly monitoring fee of seniors.
The amount is typically $59.99 per visit. To avoid being charged a fee, you can schedule a virtual service job by calling (800) ADT-ASAP or visit our online support center at www.adt.com/help for self-service solutions to most common issues.

ADT cancellation requires a customer service phone call to 800-238-2727. During the call, the customer service agent gives you instructions and may ask you to submit a written request. This call is the best time to ask if you're eligible for a refund or a break on the 75% termination fee.
ADT does require you to keep a monitoring package to get full usage out of your equipment. Without the package, many features are unavailable and you don't get complete protection.

The standard ADT contract is 36 months, unless you live in California, where it's only 24 months. Once the initial contract period is up, you will automatically roll over into a month-to-month contract that you can end at any time without penalties provided you give the company at least 30 days' notice.
Upon early termination of 36-month monitoring contract, ADT may charge 75% of the monthly service charges due for the balance of the initial contract term. Monitoring monthly is usually tied to a 36-month contract. With equipment and installation, however, you have the option of paying upfront or financing. This can be combined with your monthly monitoring for one easy payment. The installation fee on most packages is around $150.
Ending an ADT contract is termed an early cancellation. The penalty imposed for early termination is to make up or recover the cost of equipment used around your property. When you cancel your ADT contract, you don't give back the ADT alarm system to the company.
