There are two types of holds that can be used with a Honeywell Thermostat. These are temporary holds and permanent holds. A temporary hold will keep the HVAC system set to the held temperature for a temporary period of time of less than 12 hours or until the hold is cancelled.
Temporary hold lasts until the next scheduled program period.
Once you have located the reset button, the process to reset thermostat settings is straightforward: Press and Hold: Using a small object, press and hold the reset button. The time you need to hold it can vary, but generally, 5-10 seconds should suffice.
This temporary feature is due to your thermostat set to a Program setting (schedual) not necessarily set to your needs and when you press temp up or down, it goes to a 3 hour temporary run time. if you want to btpass that press HOLD and set to desired temp.
This is an easy problem to solve yourself by simply removing the plastic outer casing and, with a very soft brush, delicately brushing off its coil and contact surfaces. It is most effective to clean the thermostat first at its lowest setting, then again at its highest setting.
What is a temporary hold? When we authorize an estimated order amount from the credit or debit card, the bank places a hold on that amount to ensure there are enough funds to complete the purchase. It's sometimes called an authorization hold and shows as pending in your account.
A temporary hold, also known as a “Hold Until” setting, overrides the current temperature set point for a defined period, typically up to a maximum of 12 hours.
When a thermostat gets stuck open, it'll allow coolant to circulate continuously even when it's not needed. Unfortunately, that will overcool the engine and cause it to operate below its optimal temperature range. As a result, the engine will lose fuel efficiency, and its components will experience excess wear.
Remove the temporary hold: Once you have found the current temperature setting, you should see an indicator that shows a temporary hold or override. This indicator may be a flame symbol or a clock symbol with a plus or minus sign. Press the appropriate button or use the arrows to remove the temporary hold.
By pressing “Hold”, your thermostat will lock in the temperature it's currently at until you change it again. When you are ready for your normal schedule to resume, simply press the “Run” button and return to your typical programming. Convenient, right?
When your thermostat says "temporary", it means that your thermostat is in a temporary hold. The thermostat will hold the building's HVAC system at the set temperature until the temporary hold period expires of the hold is cancelled. The temperature for the temporary hold can be adjusted.
A credit card hold is typically removed once the transaction is approved. Most credit card authorizations expire within a few minutes or up to seven days. Some credit card holds (such as those from cruise lines, lodging merchants or vehicle rentals) can last up to 31 days.
The blinking "Cool On" means the cool cycle is in delay (5 minute by default). If it's continually blinking then either the thermostat is bad, or there's a short in the low voltage wiring that's causing it to reset everytime it tries to come back on (basically resetting itself over and over).
Temporary Program Override
The display will show “Temp Hold” to the left of the desired temperature. To cancel the temporary setting and return to the program, press Run.
On average, a thermostat takes around 5 to 10 minutes to reset. However, the exact time may vary depending on the specific model and brand of the thermostat. During the reset process, the thermostat goes through a rebooting sequence, which includes shutting down and restarting.
To reset a non-programmable digital thermostat, you'll need to take the face-off and hold the reset button for five seconds. You can also try removing the batteries for five seconds. Both of these methods should result in a reset thermostat.
“Hold” can be an excellent feature if you're going on vacation or will be away for a period of time, as it will help you save money on energy bills.
Some of the most common thermostat issues include:
The thermostat is broken, not properly level, or dusty. The thermostat needs to be recalibrated. There is loose wiring causing a thermostat issue.
The temporary hold setting is when you change the temperature setting to a different temperature and it stays at that setting until the next schedule change. The permanent hold setting holds the temperature setting you have chosen for an indefinite time. This overrides your scheduled settings.
Extensions of Temporary Holds
The 30-business day hold period in Rule 2165(b)(4) is in addition to the 15-business day hold in Rule 2165(b)(2) and the 10-business day hold in Rule 2165(b)(3) (for a total of 55 business days).
Using the “hold” function on your system means you can suspend the program if you'll be away from home for a while, such as while you're on vacation. This means you can tell your HVAC to stay put at a specific temperature to keep your pipes from freezing in winter but as warm as you want it to be for comfort.
