Replace the Batteries
Your Schlage Connect Keypad may malfunction if the batteries are low. So if your keypad suddenly stops working, the first step to resolving this issue is to replace the batteries in your lock. So replace the batteries in your lock to see if that resolves the issue.
Schlage and Kwikset are two of the most popular lock manufacturers on the market. Both brands make excellent locks that homeowners can easily install, but Schlage locks tend to offer higher security and reliability and are trusted by big businesses.
In fact, most keyless locks can operate anywhere between 3-5 years off the original batteries. Most electronic keyless locks also come equipped with a low battery indicator light or warning sound, which will alert you well in advance when the battery is getting low.
Schlage Lock Company, LLC (the “Company”) extends a three year limited mechanical warranty and one year limited electromechanical warranty to the original user of the products manufactured by the Company (the “Products”) against defects in material and workmanship from the date of purchase.

Use the Schlage Sense app to pair it with your deadbolt and connect it to your home Wi-Fi network for anywhere access. After you have downloaded the Schlage Sense app and paired it with your lock using the Schlage mode setup, you can quickly and easily set up your Wi-Fi Adapter.
The Schlage Touch is powered by a 9V battery and because it is a standard electronic lock, the battery life will last two years with a low-battery warning that will alert you long before the battery is completely drained.
The Schlage Connect Smart Lock uses 4 AA alkaline batteries, expected to last up to two years. Plus, the lock features a low battery warning that will alert you before the battery drains completely. The lock uses Z-wave as its communication protocol.
Simply use the thumbturn to lock and unlock the door from the inside. Will the lock still work if the power goes out? Yes. All Schlage electronic locks are battery operated, so they will continue to work during a power outage.
Also in the non-forced entry category, there is no doubt Schlage is better. With a better, more precise manufacturing process and 2 additional security pins than the Kwikset deadbolt, Schlage locks are significantly harder to pick, bump or compromise in non-destructive ways.
Bottom line: Schlage is the most secure; as well they should be at twice the price of Defiant. They are even more costly than that because they only come with two keys while Defiant comes with four keys and anybody with a family needs at least four keys.
Basically, you cannot re-key the lock from Schlage to Kwikset, but you can change the lock cylinder from Schlage to Kwikset. A locksmith will be able to do it for you. Changing the lock cylinder will still cost less from changing the lock itself.
The Schlage button flashes red continuously. What does this mean? The battery is dead. You will need to replace the battery immediately.
Ensure Your Lock is Properly Installed
The first thing to do if your Schlage lock blinks green after entering a valid user code but refuses to open is to check your installation. Incomplete/wrong installation could cause your lock not to open even after entering a valid code—according to Schlage.
This happens because the lock exerts more battery power trying to remain connected to your (weak/unstable) network signal. So check your Wi-Fi settings in Schlage Home App to see if the signal strength is low. If so, try to bring your router closer to the lock to improve the signal strength.
Schlage smart locks are powered by 4 double A batteries that only need to be changed once a year.
Batteries on both the lock and key fob should last about 1 year. The app also allows you to set up guest access, with a few different key options.
Battery Life of Schlage Keypad Deadbolt
You can easily experience 1 year of battery usage without any problems. This life can even be longer depending on some factors as usage frequency, weather conditions, condition of the door etc.
Like most smart devices, people often forget that a smart lock is actually a small computer, and it can be hacked. It's possible for hackers to access your phone's data and break in, or they can access the lock itself if it's Bluetooth-enabled.
The WiFi adapter is a simple wall plug-in that connects to your home WiFi signal, making it easy for you to set up. Then use the Schlage Home app to pair it with your deadbolt for access anywhere. *If you already have an iPad®/Apple TV® at home and connected to WiFi, the Schlage Sense WiFi Adapter is not necessary.
The new Schlage Encode Plus™ Smart WiFi Deadbolt is compatible with Apple® home keys, giving you more ways to protect what matters most plus greater convenience through hands-free, remote technology.
