Per our estimation, the batteries in this lock can last for 1-2 years before needing replacement. This lock's reliability is due to its use of lithium batteries that last longer than regular batteries on average. It also uses Z-Wave technology to connect your mobile phone to the smart lock.
In fact, most keyless locks can operate anywhere between 3-5 years off the original batteries. Most electronic keyless locks also come equipped with a low battery indicator light or warning sound, which will alert you well in advance when the battery is getting low.
Simply use the thumbturn to lock and unlock the door from the inside. Will the lock still work if the power goes out? Yes. All Schlage electronic locks are battery operated, so they will continue to work during a power outage.
Battery Life of Schlage Keypad Deadbolt
You can easily experience 1 year of battery usage without any problems. This life can even be longer depending on some factors as usage frequency, weather conditions, condition of the door etc.
Schlage smart locks are powered by 4 double A batteries that only need to be changed once a year.
Batteries on both the lock and key fob should last about 1 year. The app also allows you to set up guest access, with a few different key options.
The Schlage Connect™ Smart Deadbolt requires four new AA alkaline batteries, installed on the interior side of the lock. Remove the black battery cover on the interior side of the lock by sliding it up. Unsnap the battery connector (a short wire), remove the battery tray and replace the batteries.
Since the lock has built-in Wi-Fi, it tries to maintain the connection to your home Wi-Fi network—and if your network signal is weak; the lock may be forced to continuously search/reconnect to it, hence putting a strain on the batteries. Of course, your Schlage Encode Lock batteries will drain fast if overworked.
The team at August estimates the lock's batteries should last three to six months. That's a shorter suggested lifespan than the six months to a year promised for the older, AA models.
Orange flashes indicates lock is in the middle of a programming sequence.
The Lock Has a Low or Critical Battery
If you have not touched the keypad but see your Schlage keypad lock blinking red fast, it is because it has a critical battery that needs to be replaced immediately. If the red light blinks, then it turns green, which means that the battery is low.
For the most part, your Schlage keypad lock may stop working if the batteries are low or completely drained. If your lock suddenly stops working, the first thing to do is replace the batteries and then try to operate it again. Also, check if the battery connector is disconnected and get it properly connected.
The beeper is there to confirm a successful unlocking or locking of the smart lock when using the keypad, as well as confirming each press of a number. The alarm is there to ward off any undesirables from entering your house without your permission.
Your Smart Lock will give you low-battery warnings for multiple weeks before it loses power. However, if your Smart Lock dies entirely before you can replace your batteries, your key will still work. This is the same deadbolt key that you've always used - the Smart Lock doesn't change the key needed.
The August Smart Lock Pro will tell you when it's running low on battery in a couple of ways. You'll see a red flashing light on the Smart Lock Pro itself, and you'll also receive a notification from the August app. These warnings should give you enough time to replace the batteries before they run out completely.
All Schlage keypad/smart locks are powered by non-rechargeable alkaline batteries. Schlage doesn't recommend using lithium batteries in any of its smart lock models.
Use the Schlage Sense app to pair it with your deadbolt and connect it to your home Wi-Fi network for anywhere access. After you have downloaded the Schlage Sense app and paired it with your lock using the Schlage mode setup, you can quickly and easily set up your Wi-Fi Adapter.
PLEASE NOTE: Your August Wi-Fi Smart Lock has 2 3V CR123 or CR123A Lithium batteries. It is important to replace both batteries at the same time. We do not recommend using rechargeable batteries because of their limited capacity.
The Smart Keypad runs on two AAA batteries. Estimated battery life is as follows: With Power Saving Mode disabled (default): Up to 1 month. With Power Saving Mode enabled (disables IR Motion): 2-3 months.
Under normal to heavy use, LOCKLY smart lock battery will last up to 9 months to a year on average. If your battery drains faster than average, check on the installation of the deadbolt. The battery drains fast when the deadbolt is too tight.
