When you select a quick wash cycle, your dishwasher typically uses more water, energy and heat for fast cleaning results. This cycle is helpful when you need to quickly clean up lightly soiled essentials so you can get back to making faster.
Express/Quick/1-Hour Wash
Although a quick wash cycle sounds good, you should save it for when you need it. To clean quickly, your dishwasher has to dial up its hot water use. The high temperature and the extra energy needed by the heating element can make shorter cycles an inefficient and expensive option.
Uses your dishwasher's full power to get lightly soiled dishes clean in about half the time. Depending on your dishwasher, a Quick Wash cycle can take anywhere from 20 minutes, to about an hour.
The quick wash setting works best for everyday items like plates, mugs and glasses. Because these are the most used dishes, does it make sense to run the quick wash setting regularly for said items? Maybe. But consider that the quick wash setting actually uses more water than the regular setting.
If you are concerned with saving energy, the slower wash of an eco-mode is the best option to use. It really does save a lot of energy compared to a quick-wash mode. If you are in a rush, the quick-wash mode is the better option.
If you're looking for a deep clean, a quick wash cycle won't give you the temperature or the duration you need. However if your clothes are only slightly dirty, and you want to protect your colours, then using your machine on cold wash will give you the results you want.
While it depends on the cycle you choose, most dishwasher cycle times can last anywhere from 1.5 to 4 hours. The average dishwasher running time can vary based on sensor readings, how dirty your dishes are or how long it takes to heat water between cycle phases.

Possible Problem: Clogs or Obstructions
Clogs in your self-cleaning filter, drain hose, or air vent can slow the fill and drain cycles, which means it will take your dishwasher a longer time to complete the wash cycle.
Note: For fire safety reasons, only run appliances like dishwashers while you're home and try to avoid running them when you're sleeping. If you're not a night owl, consider running the machine early in the morning before you go to work to still snag the cost savings.
Why do new dishwashers take so long? Changes to ENERGY STAR® standards issued in 2012 required new machines to use under 4.25 gallons of water in each cycle and to keep electricity usage below 295 kWh a year.
Dishwashers can use between 1200-2400 watts, with the average dishwasher uses only about 1800 watts per cycle.
By using less energy, a quick wash will also save you money, too. But a quick wash isn't the best option if you need to wash stained clothes. The temperature is too low to lift a stain properly, so always use a full wash for this.

Not only does this cycle wash clothes fast, but you'll also save water thanks to the shorter running time. Plus, when you pair the quick cycle with a cold wash temperature, you'll use five times less energy versus the average normal cycle on a warm setting!
Ultimately, it's up to you to decide if a 15-minute wash cycle is enough for your needs. If you have a lot of laundry to do, then you might want to consider using a longer cycle. However, if you only have a few items that need to be washed, then a 15-minute wash cycle should be sufficient.
Eco mode is the perfect choice if you are looking to minimise your energy consumption. The numbers speak for themselves. However, for sparkling results for your dishes and the environment, you should select the program according to the load and how dirty the dishes are.
'Using the dishwasher should work out as the more cost-effective option compared to washing by hand, especially if you keep the tap running when you wash by hand,' says Les, 'but this only works if you only run your dishwasher on a full load and it will help to run your machine on an eco setting if it has one.
National Energy Awareness Month is approaching, so it's a good time to remember that the energy use for a dishwasher is between 0.87-1.59 kWh per load, and the average dishwasher uses six gallons of water per cycle. More efficient dishwashers, Energy Star-rated dishwashers, use four gallons per cycle.
