For the height, go about 3 inches above the window trim (to allow for the mounting brackets) and measure from that point down to the window sill. Without adding these extra inches, your window covering may have gaps on the side where light shines through, or not fully reach the window sill.
Step 2: Measure the Height
The shade should overlap the window opening on the top by at least 1-1/2 inches. Some products may require more than 1-1/2 inches above the window for mounting hardware. If there's no sill, measure to the point you'd like the shade to reach.
