Most sink manufacturers provide a template. Position the template so it is centered on the sink cabinet and is at least 1 1/2 inches back from the countertop's front edge. If your countertop is deeper than 24 inches, place it farther back, but not more than 4 inches.
Here are some rough kitchen countertop landing ideas and guidelines: Sink landing area: 18 inches to 24 inches on each side for placing dishes to dry or that need to be washed.
A sink no larger than 29 inches will fit in a 42-inch corner cabinet. In most cases, the sink is three inches from the cabinet's front frame.
Regardless of where you place your kitchen sink, you will want to make sure to have at least 20 to 24 inches of countertop space on each side of the sink. This will give you enough room to leave drying dishes, or to prepare food for cooking.
Bathroom Sink Distance From the Wall
The bare minimum is 15 inches. This is measured from the sink's center point to the wall. Bathroom vanities with precut sinks should already meet the spacing guidelines.
Place a sink near a dishwasher
You most certainly want your dishwasher and sink to be next to one another. This will make loading the dishwasher easier and more efficient; you can just scrape or rinse off your plates in the sink before setting them in the dishwasher.
One of the best ways to fix the gap between the vanity and the wall is to use a backer rod and caulk. Before getting the rod, you must carefully measure the gap to get the right dimensions. Taking this measurement ensures you get a rod that fits perfectly without cutting or shaving it first.
Typically the setback is 2" to 2-1/2" from the front of the counter, depending on the countertop overhang, the type of sink bowl and the size of the sink deck. To create a template, turn the sink upside down on the piece of plywood and draw around it. Or place template transfer paper or cardboard template on plywood.
Connolly recommends that the faucet should extend out at least seven inches from the back of the sink, so you can wash your hands without banging them against the sink. So, if your countertop is 24 inches deep, that would put the spout about 11 inches from the wall.
If a 1-inch buffer of counter space is left in front of the sink, 3 inches more is available behind it to mount the faucet. As long as the faucet base is less than 3 inches wide and the total width of the sink is 20 inches or less, the faucet will comfortably fit on the countertop.

The least amount of space that should exist between the countertop and upper kitchen cabinets is 18 inches, but it may even go up to 20-22 inches. But if you are someone of a shorter height, then you may consider bringing them down a bit to be able to successfully access the top shelves of the upper cabinets.
You want the spout to reach over the center of the sink and to prevent breakage to the countertop by leaving enough space in front of the faucet. We recommend installing the faucet 1.5″ to 2″ (center of hole) from the sink opening.
Adjust the sink to leave 1½ inches between its back edge and the backsplash. Be sure sink is parallel with the counter's edge.
A: from the back edge of the faucet where it meets the countertop, about 3/4". From the center of the faucet hole, about 2". That gives the handle about 1/4" of clearance from the backsplash in the full hot position.
Single Sink Space From the Wall
For most people, that minimum distance is at least 20 inches, measuring from the centerline, the NKBA recommendation. Adding a few inches more than 20 may make cleaning and using the sink easier.
3-4" from counter edge to sink edge is common.
Clearance to the front: Recommended: 760mm. Required: 510mm.
There are pros and cons to centered and offset drains. But to sum up, we recommend offset drains for small and busy kitchens, and centered drains for larger sinks and quick renovation projects.
All four designers concur that, if you have the room, a second sink is always advisable. The biggest reason cited was that food prep and cleanup can be assigned their own designated areas.
Placing the faucets 6-8” above the countertop is typically a comfortable height for most above-counter sinks.
While you may find double bathroom sinks in various sizes, the standard size and shape is circular between 18-20 inches and about 8” deep. The distance between the two sinks, measured from each of their centers, should be at least 30 inches, if not more, depending on the total length of your vanity.
There are no building codes that establish a standard upper cabinet height. The prevailing “standard” among kitchen remodelers is 54 inches from the floor to the cabinet's bottom edge. That leaves an 18-inch space between the countertops and the upper cabinets.
A related issue is “kitchen sinking,” when someone can't stay on topic during a conflict and starts bringing up every past problem or issue—everything but the kitchen sink!
