At a minimum, the hood should extend to about the middle of the front burners. Under-cabinet range hoods are not as deep as wall or island models. A range hood should not extend beyond the outer edge of the cooktop.

STANDARD RANGE HOOD DEPTH
Your range hood should be deep enough to cover all rear and front burners to most effectively vent your cooking space. For most range hoods, you can plan on a depth of about 18 inches to 22 inches for full coverage.
The goal is for your range to fit mostly flush with the top of your countertops and the front of your cabinets, with the door only sticking out an inch or two beyond the cabinets.
Ventilation to the Outdoors (IRC M1503. 1): Residential range hoods should vent to the outside to effectively expel smoke, grease, and cooking odors, maintaining the home's air quality. This requirement is crucial for preventing the recirculation of contaminants within the home.
This ductwork would be about 9-12 feet long, but since we'd have 2-3 elbows that count for 5 feet each, we are looking at a 19-27 duct length. Note that the maker of the hood recommends no more than 35 feet.
Going through the exterior wall of your house requires less waterproofing. If you decide to vent through the roof, make sure the vent goes all the way outside and not just into the attic. When venting the range hood through an outside wall, make sure you're not going into a soffit or any other obstruction.
A range hood should stick out at least to the middle of the front burners. Ideally, it would extend slightly beyond the front of the range to capture air debris and smoke when you open your oven door.
It will sit flush against your existing cabinetry and shouldn't stick out from the wall. The sides of this oven and range might not have any fashionable panels covering them – because they aren't meant to be seen. A freestanding range is meant to be placed anywhere.

The standard height for a range hood is between 28 and 36 inches from the cooktop for a gas range and electric range. 28 inches is the minimum height. If the hood is any closer, it may become damaged. Any further than 36 inches and your hood won't move air away from your cooktop efficiently.

Right distance gas cooktop
The minimum distance between your gas cooktop and range hood is 65cm. This is to ensure your safety because of the gas and fire.
30” and perfectly square, that is, 30” everywhere which means cabinets are square and in plane. You will almost certainly need to shim at the wall to get them this way as walls are never flat. If this is too much trouble then 30” min and you can find gap covers to cover between range and counter.
The top of your stove should be ideally level with the top of the counter or slightly higher if needed to avoid heat from the cooktop damaging the counter over time. For this reason and others, you should choose your appliances before finalizing measurements on your custom kitchen cabinets.
The sink, main refrigerator, and stove should be in close proximity to each other. You require a minimum of 4 feet between each point to easily maneuver, and equally not more than 9 feet. This allows easy access to get food from the refrigerator to a preparation point, and then into the oven.

A range hood should be installed a minimum of 20" above an electric unit and 30" above a gas range. For optimum efficiency, the distance between the cooking surface and hood should not exceed 30".
For optimum performance, make sure that the air duct is short and straight, with a maximum length of 50 linear feet. Long radius elbows are preferred to short radius elbows for better air intake. Note: Each elbow is equivalent to 10 linear feet of duct.
The Bottom Line
A range hood shouldn't be vented into your attic. There are many ductless options available that will work great if you don't want to add additional ducting to direct kitchen exhaust outdoors. However, if you want a ducted range, there are many ventilation systems to select as well.
And both are usually connected to a ducting system that removes air from the kitchen and sends it outdoors. The difference is that a vent hood is designed to draw air, while a range hood is designed to push air. A range hood uses a forced-air fan to push air out of the system.
