If there is food in the oven, let the oven cool to room temperature and try to unlatch the door. If no food or utensils are in the oven, start a Self-Clean cycle, then hit the Clear/Off pad after 60 seconds. If that does not unlock the door, run a short Self-Clean cycle (1-2 hours).
Buy the "Advanced Production: Buildings" pack for 2500 Science, and you'll have the Oven recipe added to your crafting list, among others. The oven requires the following ingredients to craft: Clay x10. EverChar Coal Chunk x4.
Use a wire hanger.
Unfold a wire hanger and create a hook that you can use to flip the switch. Slide the flat hook through the area between the door and the main part of GE oven. Place the hook over the latch. Pull gently to release the lock.
The oven will need to cool to approximately 200°F (95°C) before the door will open. Allow the oven to cool, for approximately 30-90 minutes, move the latch arm to the left to unlock the door.
The most common reason why an oven will not turn off is that one of the control board's relays has shorted. The control board's relays send voltage to the bake and broil circuits.
Turn off the oven and give it 30-90 minutes to cool down; then try opening the door or pressing the “Clear/Off” button to disengage the lock function. This can be super frustrating since your food is in the oven! But if you can't get the door to unlock any other way, this is your only option.
Before you get started
You may be ready to make your oven look like new again, but keep these things in mind before initiating the process. To stay safe and prevent shorting out the electrical system, always be sure to unplug your oven before any deep cleaning.
Homemade OVEN CLEANER ¼ cup of dish soap ½ cup of lemon juice 1 cup of vinegar 1 ¼ cup of water All you have to do is add these ingredients into a spray bottle and shake gently to combine. Spray the solution in your stove (including on the inside of the door), then let it sit for a little while.
What you can do instead of running the self-clean cycle to completion is to actually unplug your oven for a bit. This essentially resets the appliance and may force the door lock to disengage. Your oven's owner manual may also have a way to reset it via pushing specific buttons on the control panel as well.
When the range is too hot, the door will lock.
Turn the circuit breaker to the OFF position or remove the fuse. Wait one minute, then turn the circuit breaker back to the ON position or install the fuse to reset power to the appliance. This should reset the electronic controls on the Range or Wall Oven.
After a self-cleaning cycle, the oven should open once it has completely cooled. Depending on the age and make of your oven, this can take anywhere from 30-90 minutes. In most cases, if your oven has an automatic lock, then it will also automatically unlock itself once the self-cleaning is finished.
Power Cycle the Oven.
Sometimes, a simple power cycle can reset the oven's control panel and release the door lock. Unplug the oven from the electrical outlet for a few minutes, and then plug it back in.
Push the door switch in and hold it so that the oven thinks the door is shut. Now just start a self clean cycle and wait 60 seconds. Then cancel the self clean cycle and the door lock should open. At that point you can let go of the light switch and the oven should work normally.
