Phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) are the two main nutrients that stimulate root growth. Organic fertilisers often display the relative quantities of each, as well as nitrogen (N), in the form of the NPK ratio. All you need to make a rooting powder with apple cider vinegar is the vinegar itself and water. You only need to add one teaspoon to each 1.2 to 1.4 litres of water. This should give the plants a slight boost to help them root successfully.
Using apple cider vinegar as a rooting hormone is a safe and natural way to weaken the outer coating of seeds, making for faster germination.
Cinnamon as a rooting agent is as useful as willow water or hormone rooting powder. A single application to the stem when you plant the cutting will stimulate root growth in almost every plant variety. Give your cuttings a quick start with the help of cinnamon powder.
Water is vital to root growth thus watering must be effective at the root level. Too much water is as harmful to plants as too little water. Water plants infrequently but water them deeply – to the roots. Wind conditions, humidity, soil structure, and heat all affect water absorption.
Add a Pothos! I'd heard of using willow as a natural rooting hormone (no idea where to source that however), but didn't know Pothos has this 'super power' too! Just pop a Pothos cutting in with the water with your slow-to-grow cuttings and it helps speed up root development.
If these items are of organic nature, that can also be your organic rooting hormone. Here is my favorite shortlist: banana peels are high in potassium. coffee grounds contain potassium and nitrogen.
Auxin is the major growth-promoting hormone for the initiation of lateral and adventitious root growth.
Success factors for rooting your cuttings
They'll root faster with plenty of sunlight, but avoid setting them in direct sun. Temperature is also important, the warmer the better to speed things up. For cuttings that are more valuable or difficult, adding a little aquarium pump to oxygenate the water will help a lot.
Use ACV for fertilising your plants
As a result of our ACVs low acidic content, it's great to use as a fertiliser. Using organic, raw and unfiltered ACV, such as Willy's, is great for your plants due to it containing pulp which has the highest amount of nutrients for your plants!
Honey is a much-vaunted rooting stimulant when applied to stem cuttings. Honey is relatively cheap and readily available. Cutting and dipping using honey into inert propagation media (mixes of perlite, vermiculite, coco peat) or non-inert potting mixes or soil is supposed to stimulate better and faster rooting.
Prevent Fungal Disease
MAKE IT: Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 2-3 drops of liquid soap in 1 liter of water. Spray the solution on the infected plants. Baking soda helps the plants become less acidic and prevents fungal growth.
Among other things, phosphorus supports root growth and fruiting, while potassium supports disease resistance and plant hardiness. Phosphorus and potassium are not mobile in the soil and need close contact with plant roots in order to be taken up.
Can I Just Sprinkle Epsom Salt on Plants? Never apply Epsom salt straight from the package. Always dilute the granules in water first, and either drench your plants' roots or spray it on the foliage. Don't spray on hot or sunny days, however, to avoid scorching the foliage.
You can encourage growth in cuttings by using rooting powder and peat-and-pumice potting mixtures. For planted trees and shrubs, try root stimulators, willow water, and potassium-rich fertilizer.
This is one of the most regularly used root stimulants. First, add 25 g of cinnamon (three spoonfuls) to a litre of water and leave for an hour. Then filter it and keep it in the fridge. Once ready, soak the stems for a few minutes.
Low soil pH can cause poor root growth and magnesium deficiency. 1. Excessive nutrient leaching, or movement of nutrients below the root zone by heavy rainfall, can greatly reduce the plant's ability to grow.
