Simply push the button on the alarm to temporarily silence the system for about seven minutes. This button will also test the operation of the alarm. Kidde recommends testing your smoke alarms weekly.
Reset the Smoke Detector: Sometimes, a smoke detector just needs a good reset to stop the chirping. You can do this by turning off the power at the circuit breaker, removing the detector from the mounting bracket and disconnecting the power supply. Then, press and hold the test button for about 15 seconds.
If the alarm is sounding, pressing the test/reset button will terminate the alarm. If the CO condition that caused the alert in the first place continues, the alarm will reactivate.
Pushing the Test/Hush button on the alarm will end the temporarily desensitized period. Model P3010B will issue a voice prompt stating “Hush Mode Cancelled” after the Test/Hush button has been pressed. If the smoke is not too dense, after ten minutes the alarm will return to normal operation.
Press and hold the test button for at least 15 seconds. The unit may chirp or alarm for a few seconds before going silent. Reconnect the power and reinstall the battery. The unit will chirp once when the power is restored and should not chirp afterwards.
The "HUSH" feature has the capability to temporarily desensitize the smoke alarm circuit for approximately 7 minutes. This feature is to be used only when a known alarm condition, such as smoke from cooking, activates the alarm. The smoke alarm is desensitized by pushing the "HUSH" button on the smoke alarm cover.
The smoke alarm is desensitized by pushing the “Test/Hush” button on the smoke alarm cover. If the smoke is not too dense, the alarm will silence immediately. If the smoke or debris is interfering with the sensor, the alarm will override the Hush.
Electrical issues: Problems with your home's electrical system, such as a tripped circuit breaker or loose wiring, can get your smoke alarm beeping. Environmental factors: Steam from a hot shower or high humidity can set off a false alarm. End of life: Most smoke detectors need replacing every 10 years.
Pressing the “Test/Silence” button on the front of the unit should stop it from beeping or chirping. If this doesn't work, grasp the device and turn it counterclockwise. It should detach from the base so you can open the battery compartment in the back. Remove and replace the battery to see if it caused the issue.
In the rare event that a nuisance alarm does occur, Kidde's Worry-Free Alarms have a hush button feature that will temporarily silence the smoke alarm if a non-emergency condition activates it. Simply push the button on the alarm to temporarily silence the system for about seven minutes.
If your smoke alarms are wired to your home's electrical wiring, simply turning off the circuit breaker will do the trick.
Hard wired smoke alarms are mains-powered and include a battery as a backup in case of a power failure. As it's unlikely that both the power and battery will fail at the same time, hard wired smoke alarms offer an extremely reliable form of protection.
Clean The Alarm
Dust and debris can affect the alarm. As far as it is concerned, the spider web or speck of dust that is obscuring the sensor is a potential fire and therefore the alarm needs to be sounded. The easiest way to clean an alarm is to run a vacuum cleaner over the vent.
Low Battery or End-of-Life: This type of chirp indicates it is time to replace your smoke alarm's batteries or the smoke alarm itself.
The beeping sound the low battery alarm makes can become very annoying but can be disconnected by removing the drained battery from your home alarm system panel. Make sure to replace the drained battery with a new one to keep your home alarm system functioning properly.
Take out its battery, then press the “Test” button holding it down for 15 seconds. An alarm will sound for a short time, then the alarm will silence. Install the battery in the smoke detector, reconnect the power cable and mount the smoke detector back on its mounting bracket.
Sometimes, smoke detectors will keep going off for no reason when they have reached the end of their life span. Fire alarms have a lifespan of about 10 years, after which they will need to be replaced. Smart smoke detectors can help eliminate some of the annoyances related to false alarms.
The HUSH feature cannot be activated unless the smoke alarm is sound- ing in the originating alarm mode. The smoke alarm is desensitized by pushing the “ TEST / HUSH” button on the smoke alarm cover. If the smoke is not too dense, the alarm will silence immediately.
Replacing batteries might be the solution to your problem, even if your smoke alarm is hard-wired. Hard-wired smoke alarms use batteries as a back-up. When those back-up batteries need replacing, the alarm will tell you.
Break through label with a screwdriver. Turn the screw to the “OFF” location. This will deactivate the alarm, stop the low battery chirp and render the alarm safe for disposal by draining the battery. NOTE: Turning off the alarm is permanent.
The battery may need to be replaced. An alarm will chirp every 30 to 60 seconds for a minimum of seven days. With a "low battery" announcement, disconnect the unit and replace the batteries. You can also put a unit into low battery hush for up to 12 hours on newer units by pressing the test/hush button.
For hardwired smoke detectors, random beeping may result from electrical interference, loose connections, or power fluctuations. Wireless devices, such as Wi-Fi routers or baby monitors, can also disrupt the detector's signal, causing unexpected beeping.
