Optional Top Coat: For added protection, consider applying a clear finishing wax. This seals the liming wax and provides a barrier against wear and tear. It can also add a glossy or matte finish, based on your preference.
Allow the wax to harden. This curing process can take between 5-21 days at which stage the wax will be completely hard. If you need to clean your waxed finish once it has cured, simply do so with a damp cloth.
Expert advice for using Liberon Liming Wax
If you need a water-resistant finish, use Liberon Finishing Oil instead of the Black Bison polish. Apply a second coat of polish and buff the surface, or add another coat of oil. The more oil coats you apply, the more water-resistant and glossier the finish will become.
sealants need a clean, clear surface to bond to, you should seal first and then use wax over it once cured. It usually takes 8-24hours to really get the max durability from sealant bonding to paint completely.
Dab your seal into our Seal Non-Stick (or Highlighting Ink for a dimensional look) to prevent the seal sticking to the sealing wax. If you are not using a non-stick product and find the wax won't let go of the seal, simply let your seal rest on the wax until the wax is completely cool, then lift your seal off.
The best practice is to apply the sealant first and then to top that base layer with wax, but now there's an even more flexible way. Thanks to the cross-linking polymer engineering in all Surf City Garage Detailing Products, you can layer our sealant over the wax or the wax over the sealant – it's YOUR choice.
Seal with a coat of Transparent Shellac Polish. Apply liberally with a lint free cotton cloth or 0000 steel wool, working well into the grain in a circular motion. Once the surface is completely covered, rub lightly across the grain making sure the liming wax remains in the open pores.
If the wax is left on for longer than 20 minutes before being buffed off, buffing will require more effort and the finish will be glossier. Allow 10-20 minutes for each coat to dry and 1 hour between coats. 750ml will normally treat 2 door sides with 2 coats (approx 15m2).
Liberon Liming Wax is a white wax used to create a limed effect on oak and other interior hardwoods. Liming looks most effective in lighter colour woods and open grained timber. In order to lime a piece of furniture the grain pores must be open so the liming wax can be rubbed into them.
This white wax is designed to work its way into the grain of the wood, highlighting its natural characteristics and giving a sense of depth and texture to the surface. It's a particularly effective tool when applied to woods with a prominent grain structure, as it makes the grain patterns stand out in a striking way.
For a smooth finish you may also need to fill and sand any holes. Next to be able to lime the wood, the pores of the grain must be open so that the liming wax or paste can be worked into them. The most effective way to open the grain of the wood and lift the pores is by rubbing vigorously with a liming bronze brush.
Fiddes Liming Wax is ideal for application on woods such as oak, or those which normally exhibit distinctive deep grain pattern. On application, Fiddes Liming Wax fills the open wood pores, offering contrasting white tone and emphasizing the grain across the whole surface area, typical of a traditional 'Limed' finish.
You can use a spoon to melt your wax, glue gun, or just hold a stick over a flame. Glue gun wax is easiest and the fastest (if you're doing lots of seals). Using a spoon is easy too and at allows you to have more control over the wax.
I have seen waxes last 2 weeks and some last as much as 6 months. Carnauba waxes will typically last 3-5 weeks at most, while sealants will offer better protection for about 4+ months. No wax will last a year no matter what hype you have been told, so its best to reapply before you think the wax is completely gone!
Your toilet's wax ring creates an airtight seal to prevent water and sewer gas from escaping. When the thick wax ring goes bad, you need to replace it right away to prevent leaks. Knowing the signs of wax ring failure helps you spot an issue early to prevent major plumbing repairs.
Lightening wood with liming wax will always be my favourite method. It works best on wood with an open grain like oak or pine as the wax sits in the grain. And you can seal with a matt polyurethane top coat if it's for a much used surface.
So, just allow the wax to cure, give it a light sanding and you're good to paint away!
To fully remove the white liming effect created by Liming Wax, use a cloth and Libéron Wax Polish Black Bison Neutral or, if a water-resistant finish is required, use Libéron Finishing Oil. Follow with the second coat of Wax Polish Black Bison and buff or add another coat of oil.
Drying Time: Drying time in good conditions is 15 minutes. Re-coating: Time 15 minutes. Liming Wax can be over coated with Clear Briwax to give a more durable finish. Maintenance Wipe over with clean dry cloth when necessary.
A sealant won't bond well to a waxed surface, neither will a coating.
For a 1 inch, circular seal, I have found that 1 to 1.5 pumps on a standard glue gun is juuuust about right. If you're using the wax beads in a spoon, 1 bead should equal 1 seal, though I like to start with 2-3 to get the wax flowing nicely!
A wax finish has a unique look and feel to other finishes and can make a piece of furniture or other wood look and feel like it's worth much more. It can be re-waxed as many times as you like and buffed until the required sheen level is obtained or indeed left un-buffed if a more natural low sheen look is preferred.
Press the seal into the wax for 5 to 10 seconds.
Hold the seal directly over the wax and lower it downward. Firmly press the seal into the wax and leave it to sit for around 10 seconds as the wax cools and hardens.
