When it comes to cleaning high gloss furniture, you must be gentle. Avoid harsh cleaners at any cost. High Gloss Furniture is perfectly practical when you regularly look after it. For day-to-day gloss cleaning, you shouldn't need to do anything more than wipe down with warm soapy water and dry with a microfibre cloth.
Use a mild detergent solution: A mild detergent solution comprising warm water and a few drops of dish soap is enough to clean your high gloss furniture pieces. This mixture will remove dirt, dust and other debris from the surface of your high gloss lacquer furniture items without impacting their finish.
Use an e-cloth (or soft microfibre cloth) to wipe fingerprints and marks away. For a deeper clean, spray with water and clean with a soft microfibre cloth or an e-cloth, and then dry with another dry and soft cloth. Immediately wipe any liquid spills. Use clean water and wipe with an e-cloth for more sticky spills.
Always use antibacterial dishwashing liquid or mild soap to clean your gloss cabinet surfaces. The ideal direction to clean your cabinets is starting from top to bottom. You don't need to go in a circular motion when removing stains and grease marks.
Kate Lester of Kate Lester Interiors says the general rule of thumb when selecting a paint finish is that the higher the gloss (or shine), the greater the durability and the easier it is to clean. However, the glossier the paint, the more likely it is to show dirt.
Does high gloss furniture scratch easily? Compared to matte finishes, high gloss furniture is more susceptible to wear and tear as scratches, stains and smears are more visible on its surface.
General/Regular Cleaning
Cleaning a lacquered floor is easy and can be done as many times as you want. The ideal product to use is the Bona Spray Mop. The spray mop is easy to use, and comes with 1ltr of Bona Cleaner.
For maintenance cleaning, we recommend using a soft microfiber cloth soaked in warm water. Wring it out, then add a few drops of white vinegar.
Bad: Do NOT use on satin-finish metal, bronze or any lacquered surface. Windex contains ammonia which is corrosive to many types of metal. Ugly: Windex will break down lacquer and discolor metal.
Wipe wood furniture with a barely damp microfiber cloth to remove dust and grime. (Use a cotton cloth to avoid damaging the wood.) Quickly wipe it dry with another microfiber cloth. Don't let water sit on wood since it can warp the surface.
Over time, your wooden furniture may start to lose the bright shine it had the first day you brought it home. Before you decide to get rid of the piece, know that your wooden furniture can easily be restored with a simple mixture of oil and vinegar.
The best way to preserve the finish of your furniture is to dust it every week with a slightly damp microfiber cloth or other soft cloth. Buff the surface dry. Don't over-use furniture polish. Instead, buff with a soft cloth to bring up the shine on dull furniture.
CLEANING PRODUCTS FOR WOOD FURNITURE
A gentle, water-based solution such as Murphy® Oil Soap Original works well when cleaning and protecting the finish on your wood floors, furniture and cabinets.
You can use commercially prepared lemon oil. You can also make a simple polish by mixing 1 cup of olive oil with 1/4 cup white vinegar. Pour it on a soft cloth and work it into the wood, wiping with the grain. Buff till shiny.
Olive oil nourishes the wood and lemon or white vinegar cleans it. They give your wood a healthy and long lasting shine.
The Cons of a Gloss Finish
While gloss kitchens are easier to clean, they also need to be cleaned more often as those dirty marks and fingerprints will show up more easily. Another downside, particularly with acrylic gloss units, is that they're quite easy to scratch.
