First, replace the old battery. If you've installed a new battery and the alarm continues to beep, drain any residual charge from the unit. Remove the unit from the ceiling and remove its battery, then hold the test button for 15 seconds. Next, replace the battery.
Pressing the “Test/Silence” button on the front of the unit should stop it from beeping or chirping. If this doesn't work, grasp the device and turn it counterclockwise. It should detach from the base so you can open the battery compartment in the back. Remove and replace the battery to see if it caused the issue.
Reset the Smoke Detector: Sometimes, a smoke detector just needs a good reset to stop the chirping. You can do this by turning off the power at the circuit breaker, removing the detector from the mounting bracket and disconnecting the power supply. Then, press and hold the test button for about 15 seconds.
Silence the Alarm in 3 Steps
Press the hush/silencing button. It will silence the entire interconnected system. The button may also say “test.” It should silence all the alarms immediately unless there's still smoke and debris.

All First Alert Alarms come with a Test Button. With the battery removed from the unit, press and hold this button for 30 seconds. This will fully reset the alarm, removing the residual charge of the previous battery.
In most cases, you can find the 'hush' button on the smoke detector's cover.
The beeping sound the low battery alarm makes can become very annoying but can be disconnected by removing the drained battery from your home alarm system panel. Make sure to replace the drained battery with a new one to keep your home alarm system functioning properly.
If you hear your smoke detector beeping in brief chirps every 30-60 seconds, it's probably time to replace the battery. Or you might need to clean out the dust, check the battery connections or replace the whole smoke alarm.
First, try the reset button on each smoke alarm. If that doesn't work, flip the circuit breaker off and on. If that fails, you may have to disconnect the smoke alarms and remove the backup batteries inside them one by one. (The batteries are there to protect you during a power outage.)
The alarm is low on battery. This is the most common cause of beeping alarms. The alarm will beep every 30 to 40 seconds to alert you that the battery needs to be replaced. To fix this problem, you need to replace the battery with a new one of the same type and size.
Low Battery or End-of-Life: This type of chirp indicates it is time to replace your smoke alarm's batteries or the smoke alarm itself.
Excess moisture in the air can mimic smoke, causing alarms to activate. If humidity levels exceed 85%, false alarms are more likely. To combat this, ensure your home is well-ventilated. A hairdryer can be used to gently blow warm air through the smoke alarm to dry out any moisture buildup.
Three repetitive beeps approximately every 45 seconds indicate that your detector has detected a fault in its smoke sensor.
Temporary Solution, Not Permanent: Hush Mode temporarily silences the alarm for a specific duration (usually around 7 minutes). It should not be used as a permanent solution. If false alarms persist, it may indicate an underlying issue with the smoke detector requiring attention.
Will a smoke alarm eventually stop chirping? A smoke alarm will eventually stop chirping if you do nothing. Once the battery has run out completely, the device will switch to residual power. Eventually, this will also drain and the device won't have enough power to beep and let you know it's out of power.
While your smoke alarm sounds, pressing the hush button will silence the smoke alarm for approximately 10 minutes. The hush feature is typically used where an alarm has been triggered accidently. This provides time to clear the current environment of fumes that triggered the alarm without the alert tone sounding.
For hardwired or wireless alarms, only hushing the initiating unit will silence all other interconnected alarms (see below on how to find the initiating unit). The smoke alarm is desensitized by pushing the “Test/Hush” button on the smoke alarm cover. If the smoke is not too dense, the alarm will silence immediately.
You may also be able to hit the silence button on any smoke alarm, which will cause all the non-initiating smoke alarms to silence so you can hear just the initiating one.
