You can patch a pool liner hole or tear above or below water. A dry patch might be an option if the water receded below the tear, for example, or if your pool has already been drained for other repairs or maintenance work. Warning: we strongly advise against draining your pool unless absolutely necessary.
If your pool gets a lot of sunlight, I always recommend to go with a thicker liner, and the sun will have to work harder to wear the liner down. I also make sure to wash down the water line area regularly with a vinyl cleaner that protects the vinyl from the sun's rays.
High concentrations of chlorine (above 1.5 ppm) will attack the liner and bleach it, thus damaging it. Any level below this range will weaken its ability to kill off bacteria.
Chlorine tablets such as dichlor and trichlor can damage vinyl liner pools if they come in contact with the liner. Chlorine tablets are often highly concentrated. As a result, they increase chlorine concentration which can bleach and weaken the liner's vinyl material, greatly reducing its life.
If the calcium levels are too high, you see the white spots, which is the calcium hardening on the liner. Chemicals that are added can raise or lower the calcium levels. When levels reach above the 400-PPM level, you will see cloudiness in the water, making the pool appear dirty and the scaling will begin.
Saltwater is extremely corrosive to certain types of metal pipes and pool equipment. Occasionally, saltwater pools are equally corrosive to pool liners. If saltwater wears away the lining of a pool long enough, it will create holes or tears in the liner. Once the liner tears, you'll have no choice but to replace it.
The typical lifespan of a vinyl liner is anywhere from 15-20 years and where your liner falls in that range depends, most crucially, upon your proper maintenance of the pool's chemistry.
Short answer: yes. Longer answer: it depends on the formulation. The label on every bleach bottle should tell you the ratio of sodium hypochlorite (and available chlorine) in the bottle to everything else. A higher percentage is generally better, as you'll need to use less bleach to treat your pool.
do not use chlorine floaters, in summer or winter, which may come to rest on the vinyl, or tip over and spill it's contents. do not put tablets in the skimmer. If you use chlorine tablets, use a chlorine feeder, installed by your pool equipment.
It is okay to use bleach as a lot of us who own vinyl liners do so. Add CYA/stabilizer to 30ppm to buffer the FC and you're good to go.
Is your pool's liner looking a little worn down? A typical vinyl liner lasts between 10 and 15 years, though there are many factors that can affect its lifespan. Living in an area susceptible to ground water problems can reduce your liner's life, as can not keeping the water in your pool balanced.
Over time, vinyl pool liners deteriorate from a combination of the UV radiation of the Sun and the pool chemicals that help to keep the water safe to use. This can cause the vinyl to become brittle. When liners become brittle they will begin to crack and rip much more easily, causing the pool to leak water.

If you have a vinyl liner, you'll be happy to know you can use a salt chlorinator system in your pool without taking any extra precautions. The liner will be exposed to lower levels of chlorine, so it may even extend your liner's lifespan. However, many inground pools have galvanized walls behind the liner.
Bubbles in the liner are frequently caused by rising groundwater that seeps underneath the pool and pushes up on the liner. This usually occurs following rainy or wet periods that cause the groundwater to rapidly rise. In extreme cases, the welled-up water may cause wrinkling, causing the liner to float.
