You can determine how deep your dishwasher can fit within your cabinet opening by measuring the depth from the back wall toward the front of your cabinets. When narrowing down your dishwasher purchase, be sure to mind any protruding handles (namely bar handles), as these should extend beyond the front of your cabinets.
Standard Dishwashers
The vast majority of undercounter dishwashers measure approximately 24 inches in width, 24 inches in depth and 35 inches in height with adjustable feet. This means that the rough opening in your cabinets must be 24- by 24- by 35-inch.

In fact, provided you follow a few important rules, there's no reason you can't install (or reinstall) your dishwasher on your own. Since dishwashers can differ from model to model, following the owner's manual, or the installation instructions, that came with the appliance is always recommended.
All dishwashers require a licensed plumber to install the plumbing and an electrician for the power outlet. Licensed plumbers know the requirements of a dishwasher installation. Most handy people won't. Dishwashers require a mini stop tap and pressure limiting valve.

Firmly pushing or pulling against the top of the dishwasher can take some weight off the leveling legs, making them easier to adjust. To raise the dishwasher, turn the legs counterclockwise; to lower it, turn them clockwise. You can use your hands but it may be easier with a hex head socket or adjustable wrench.
Proper installation allows the water to flow easily into the drain. If it's tilted, the water might pool in other areas instead of going toward the drain. It might also drain more slowly than normal. Water that remains in the dishwasher can become stagnant, which can make your dishwasher stinky.
If your dishwasher is too short, easily adjust the legs at the bottom so that their level, and lock them into place with screws. You'll also want to screw in the mounting bracket on top of the dishwasher to countertop to make sure it doesn't wobble.
