Just subtract half an inch from the width of the base cabinet to get the maximum desired sink width. For instance, if your cabinet is 26.5”, you should buy no more than a 26” wide undermount sink.
Choose a heavy stone, cast iron or enameled-steel undermount sink only if you're sure the countertop can support the weight. Color: Undermount sinks come in gloss white, matte black and everything in between. Choose one that matches your countertop or, if you prefer drama, choose one with a contrasting color.

Use a deeper sink than 16 inches. This deeper sink will less likely cause splashing and will be more suitable for bathrooms.
Undermount sinks are attached directly to the underside of the countertop. They work best with solid-surface countertops, such as granite or marble, because they need the strength for support. They can be attached with various methods, including a two-part epoxy, clips and brackets.

The oval sink is also the most practical sink shapes amongst undermount sinks. The oval shape allows the sink to be wide without having to take as much space on your counter as the rectangular sinks. In addition, the vast majority of oval bowls swoops down which allows for better drainage than the flat bottom sinks.

Simply put, yes, you can replace an undermount sink without having to remove the countertop. After the plumbing and garbage disposal are disconnected, the clips that hold the sink to the countertop from below must be removed. Then, the final step is to break the silicone adhesive bond and pull the sink out.
Popular materials for undermount sinks include stainless steel, cast iron and copper, and they can come in single-bowl and double-bowl varieties. Undermount sinks are recommended for granite, solid surface and quartz countertops, but may not be as effective with laminate. They can be more expensive than drop-in sinks.

However, both types of sinks tend to accumulate grime along the caulk line where the sink meets the counter. Where an undermount sink rim and counter meet, the caulked gap can be trickier to clean.

The standard is 3" on ANY sink, undermount or not. You use the inside edge of the bowl not the lip of the sink for measurement. 4 1/2 inches is actually quite far back. It might work for tall folks, but for average folks, 3" is what you should be using.
A 33" sink will undermount into a 33" cabinet if you strap or harness, not clip or block, the sink in place. Disregard the sink manufacturer's instructions please; I've done this hundreds of times.It is not a difficult process at all.
Can I Hire a Plumber for Undermount Sink Installation? Installing a sink is no small task, so you may want to hire a plumber to ensure it's connected properly and leak-free. Plumbers charge between $45 and $200 per hour on average. Installing a sink only takes about an hour.
Order of Installation
It's very important to install an undermount kitchen sink before the countertop slabs are set down. Once the countertop slabs are set down, you usually will not be able to fit the sink through the hole, and you won't be able to properly seal between the sink and the underside of the countertop.
Typically the setback is 2" to 2-1/2" from the front of the counter, depending on the countertop overhang, the type of sink bowl and the size of the sink deck. To create a template, turn the sink upside down on the piece of plywood and draw around it. Or place template transfer paper or cardboard template on plywood.
