Many times the deadbolts will have the name stamped on the face of the lock. Door knobs are a little different. Most brands of knobs do not have the manufacturer name on them. However, if you look at the latch, many manufactures will stamp their brand name on the latch plate.
Here is a list of ways to find out. Option 1: Look for the brand name on the metal plating on the edge of the door. If your door has a 3-point-locking system, the brand name may appear on top or bottom plating. Option 2: Look for the brand name on the escutcheon plate on the front of the door.
To make a lock work with a different key, you need to disassemble the lock, remove the pins, and replace them with ones that match the cuts in the key you wish to use.
Rekey kits allow you to rekey a lock to match existing keys in the kit. You will receive several keys (often between three and six keys), all identically cut. A set of pins comes with the kit, numbered or color-coded to identify their positions in the plug. The new keys correspond to the new pins.
