Common Ice Maker Problems. Several problems can interfere with making ice properly or dispensing ice. The ice maker or dispenser could be jammed or broken, a dirty water filter or kinked water line could be blocking water flow or the water inlet valve could be clogged or faulty.
First, remove the ice bucket and the covering from the front of the ice maker. Some models have a button you will need to push to remove the ice tray and cover. Others will just require you to pull it off. Once the ice tray and covering have been removed, locate and press the ice maker reset button for about 3 seconds.
To turn ON the icemaker, lower the feeler arm to the ON (down) position. To turn OFF the icemaker, raise the feeler arm to the STOP (up) position.
Check the fill cup and the tube at the back of the ice maker. If they are covered in ice, look for a blockage. If you see an obstruction, check out our guide on how to clean your refrigerator water line for detailed steps. If that doesn't work, consider replacing the water fill tubes.
Fill a bowl or container with warm water and pour it over the ice maker components, paying particular attention to the area where the ice is jammed. The warm water will help melt the ice blockage and free up the mechanism.
There might be a blockage in the water line leading to the ice maker, a malfunctioning water inlet valve, or an issue with the ice maker's mechanism. It's best to check these components to diagnose and fix the problem.
Your freezer temperature could be too high, the water inlet valve may not be functioning correctly, your home water pressure may be low, the refrigerator's water filter may be clogged, or the ice maker may need to be replaced.
Make Sure the Power Is ON
Tip: For icemakers with an ON/OFF switch on the icemaker, there will be a slide switch (side to side for on/off) or a toggle switch (up and down for on/off). You can see ON and OFF with slide switch icemakers.
If you don't hear a chime, but you can see movement from the ice maker, then the ice maker was reset. If you don't hear a chime and there is no movement from the ice maker, unplug the fridge or turn it off at the circuit breaker for 2 minutes. Then, power it back up and try again.
Frost accumulating inside the freezer compartment can block the vents that carry cold air into the compartment. Most freezers today have auto defrost, so check to see if the door has been left open, or if the door seal is worn. You'll need to have the seal replaced if it's damaged or torn.
It's possible that Ice may be jammed. Ice could have melted and frozen around the auger due to infrequent use, temperature fluctuations, and/or power outages. Remove the ice bin, thaw and empty contents. Clean the ice bin (wipe/dry) and replace in proper position.
Find the reset button on the bottom of the left side of the ice maker. Press and hold this button for 5 seconds and then observe its harvest cycle. The tray will twist and invert itself.
If your ice maker isn't producing ice at all or is producing crescents or cubes that are smaller than usual, it's typically indicative of a clog somewhere along the supply line. Cause: A common cause for a clog is frozen water in the line. Fix: To repair a frozen line, slide the refrigerator and unplug it.
Freezer Temperatures
The temperature of a freezer should be set at 0 degrees Fahrenheit so everything stays very cold. A freezer should be cold enough to keep food frozen and preserve it until they are ready to be cooked or reheated.
There are several reasons your ice maker may suddenly stop working, including a blocked water dispenser, issues with your water supply line or a clogged water filter.
To turn the ice maker "On", lift open the ice maker door and lower the wire shutoff arm. To manually turn "Off" the ice maker, lift the wire shutoff arm.
These sensors are small and look like a marble that has been cut in half, and are located within the entrance of the ice chute.
If you're finding that your ice maker isn't producing any ice whatsoever, this could be due to blockage in the water supply line - this can happen due to a number of reasons, but the most frequent is that ice has gotten stuck inside. To resolve this issue and unclog it fast, you'll need to melt that ice.
To begin the ice-making process, a timer triggers the water valve, which fills the ice mold with water.
Once it has been reset, it can take up to 24 hours for the ice maker to start creating ice again. For exact reset steps check your user manual. Please note: do not press the button multiple times as doing so can cause water to overflow the ice tray or ice to jam and damage the ice maker.
