Failing to change your refrigerator water filter regularly can lead to several issues: Reduced Water Quality: Over time, filters become clogged with contaminants, which can lead to water that tastes or smells bad. They may also fail to effectively remove impurities such as chlorine, lead, and bacteria.
One of the positive aspects of these water filters is that many of them can, indeed, be reused. It may not be a process most people want to undertake, however.
After replacing the filter, flush air from the system to prevent the dispenser from dripping. Using a cup, press and hold the dispenser for 5 seconds, and then release for 5 seconds. Repeat until water flows, and then continue for an additional 2 minutes.
Push the filter door closed so it snaps into place. Once your filter is replaced, run four gallons of water through the line to properly flush the new filter.
Once you've installed the new water filter, you'll usually need to prepare the filter for use by flushing it out with water. Health Risks: Drinking from an old filter can expose individuals to harmful chemicals and heavy metals that the filter was initially designed to remove. This can lead to health issues, especially in vulnerable populations like pregnant women, children, and the elderly.
It doesn't seem to cause any issues. It may surprise you, but the answer is yes, if the refrigerator or any appliance has a filter, it needs to be replaced according to the manufacturer's specifications.
With the filter removed, the water system will continue to operate, bypassing the filter, and the clogged filter will not cause slow water dispensing or low ice production. However, you will need to install a new filter to have filtered water. REMINDER: Make sure you flush the system after replacing your water filter.
All water filtration cartridges require flushing in some way. Fluoride removal cartridges MUST be flushed separately on their own, with NO other cartridges installed when new for a minimum of 10 minutes. Note 2: Some cartridges say THIS WAY UP, this is for Under Sink water filter systems.

Please keep in mind it does take 24-48 hours for your new refrigerator to fully cool. Run at least 1 gallon of water through the system (do not drink). Toss the first gallon of water out. It takes about 24 hours for the first batch of ice (do not use).
