The quickest way to shut off an alarm is to enter your code to the control panel. Most of the security systems we test also have apps through which you can cancel the alarm. In any case, you must know your disarm code. Change your batteries.
Flip the breaker connected to your system's control box to the off position to disconnect the circuit to which the sirens are wired. Your alarm may sound at this point. Don your insulated rubber gloves and unscrew the faceplate from the control box. Remove the black and red wires feeding into the backup battery pack.
The first thing you will want to do is contact your alarm company if your system is connected to a monitoring service. Most monitoring services will automatically dispatch the police if a wire is cut or if the system loses power. This is why you should always call your provider before making any changes to your system.
Disarming the security alarm
In most cases, the system will require the input of a passcode or PIN, often a four-digit number, to the keypad to disarm the alarm system. If your keypad has a display panel it will often prompt the action required.
To disarm, press the “Disarm” button, followed by your 4 digit master code. o Keychain: You may also use your keyfob/remote to disarm the system. You can do this outside your home before you come in, or after you enter your home. If you do it after you enter, you will have only 30 seconds to disarm the system.
Power Down
Unplug the power supply and battery in the alarm panel box. These are usually located in, or around: A utility closet.
Removing your old wired system
Some companies, like ADT and Vivint, will help you through the entire removal process (with an option to upgrade), but it's not common and it doesn't help if you're switching to a new system from a different company.
Alarm System How to Terminate a Contract
It is within your rights to terminate the contract at any time. To do so, you must simply advise the service provider verbally or in writing, preferably by registered mail.
Can I reuse old security system wiring? In a practical sense, a person can easily use the most modern security devices with their old coaxial wiring. Whereas the more aged the wiring is, the less capable it will be to produce quality, they are still usable when switching to the newest security DVR.
Can I save on the cost to remove a security alarm by doing it myself? If you don't have prior experience, we'd recommend against removing a wired-in burglar alarm yourself. There's always a safety risk involved when you're working with electricity and electricians are highly skilled professionals.
Your home security system likely has a main source of power, which is a box that is secured to the wall with an outlet. This box is the key to turning off the alarm while there is no electricity. Simply disconnect the box from the outlet by unplugging it.
Hardwired Smoke Alarms
Locate the main breaker panel for your home. Identify which circuit breaker powers your smoke alarms. Each breaker should be labeled, so look for something that says “smoke alarm” or something similar. Turn off the circuit breaker for your smoke alarms.
First locate your main alarm panel – this is normally a mid-sized white box attached to a wall. Now locate the alarm fuse spur – this is usually located next to the alarm panel. Remove the fuse from inside – by levering open the small compartment in the front of the box, and prizing the fuse out.
Kill the power – if all else fails, a last-ditch option to disable your car alarm is to starve it of power by disconnecting the battery. One simple way of doing this is to remove the negative (black) battery connector from the battery.
You must call your monitoring station. Review with your alarm / monitoring company the procedures you expect them to follow when an alarm activates. Put your instructions in writing.
Open the front of the alarm panel, it may be held in place by a couple of screws. Once inside locate the battery, the battery will have two connections, a red and a black, remove both of these connections.
The transformer is located where the alarm control panel is installed (not the keypad). The transformer may be colored white or tan, and will be plugged into the nearest electrical outlet by your alarm panel. A wire from the transformer will run to the alarm panel.
