If so, the device will run on its backup battery for up to 24 hours, and you will get a low battery alert as it is depleted. If AC power is not restored before the battery dies, the device will power down. Once the power comes back on, the device will turn on, and the backup battery will begin to charge.
Although the batteries in your door & window sensors may have a shelf life of up to 10 years, when used in a device, battery life expectancy is up to 2 years.
A low battery warning is most often displayed as BAT, LOW BATT or SYSTEM LO BAT on the touchpad. This warning signals that your battery is low and must be either recharged or replaced. ADT offers several battery-replacement options for our customers, including a self-service option on most systems and devices.
Open your system's panel. (If you need a key to open your panel, the key is often left on top of the panel.) After opening the panel, disconnect the wires on your battery by gently tugging on them. Replace the battery by connecting the RED wire to the RED tab on the battery and the BLACK wire to the BLACK tab.
Signs your battery needs replacing
For many of our most popular systems, beeping alarms and low battery trouble beeps can be silenced by pressing the [OFF] or [#] buttons from the keypad.
Battery replacement is not covered under any warranty. If you require services excluded from coverage, then ADT will provide the services at its current labor rate for each service call.

The cost to replace a car battery in the UK varies by type and service, but most drivers can expect to pay between £100 and £400 for a standard battery. For electric vehicles, prices are much higher. Learn what affects these costs and how to save money.
Beeping sounds
Similar to smoke alarms, a lot of house alarms will sound occasional tones when the battery is low in order to annoy you just enough to check to see what the issue is and solve your headache.
Most systems can take either a 12V 7Ah or a 12V 4Ah battery. The 4Ah size is used in smaller panel boxes. A few systems may use different voltage and Ah ratings.
Most locks retain user codes through a battery change; if yours lost them, re-enter codes and test each one.
Entry delay is the time between when a sensor is tripped and when the burglary alarm sounds, providing time for you to input the passcode to turn off the alarm. This can be set differently for each individual sensor and defaults to 30 seconds.
If you unplug you ADT or any other security system, it will most likely start beeping the keypad alerting you of the AC power loss. If you silence the keypad, usually by entering your code and leave the power disconnect, eventually the keypad will start beeping again alerting you to a low battery condition.
How to Silence a Low Battery Smoke Alarm First Alert
Home alarm system battery replacement cost
The typical cost of a replacement burglar alarm battery is between £12 and £30 depending on the type and make of battery.
If you have basic DIY skills, changing the battery in your burglar alarm is relatively straightforward. To change your home alarm battery, follow these steps: Open panel: first remove the cover of your main alarm panel by unscrewing the screws holding the front of the panel on. The alarm will then sound.
98% of the time an alarm rings during a power cut is because this battery is dead! Therefore when the mains is removed, the main control panel battery can't keep the system running so the external sounder starts ringing to inform you there's a problem.
Safety First: When replacing smoke detector batteries, turning off the power at the electrical panel is important to prevent electric shock.
Change the batteries
Alarm beeping is a built-in warning that signals the power is fading, and that a new battery will be required soon. There are two options. Go ahead and put in fresh batteries all around. The beeping should stop when you've hit on the culprit.
