One easy way to lighten up a room with a dark sofa is to add curtains, throw blankets, or area rugs to the space that are offered in lighter colors. Pair one of our dark sofas in Elyria with a pair of cheerful throw pillows in a pastel hue. Softly colored curtains will instantly make the room look brighter, too.

We do not ask you to use any volatile solvents or harsh cleaning chemicals to clean your couch. Most stains can be cleaned with 2 oz of bleach to 30 oz of water. This is best measured by a standard 32 oz spray bottle and is the best method for applying your cleaner.
And, most importantly, don't use bleach if the upholstery isn't bleach cleanable. A bleach cleanable upholstery should consist of solution dyed fiber could be made up of solution-dyed nylon or olefin, but something just made from regular old polyester, nylon or cotton is not bleach cleanable.
Grey and white
White is one of the most popular colors to go with grey and can be adapted to suit any room and any style. You can pair a barely-there grey with a crisp white for a bright and airy space or contrast white with a deep, moody charcoal.
Gray can provide a nice visual break and cool things down in a room with mostly brown furniture, while brown can add warmth to a room that's dominated by gray.

You can't use dye to lighten the color of anything, because dye is transparent, so the underlying color always shows through. Instead, to lighten the color of fabric, you must use a dye discharge chemical to damage the dye molecules so that they lose their color.
You can use oxalic acid to lighten leather, as it is a type of bleach that is suitable for wood crafts and leather crafts. This solution is often employed for cleaning leather, as well. Create the bleaching solution of oxalic acid, adding more of the oxalic acid to help make the leather some shades lighter.
Mix a solution of oxalic acid, a type of leather and wood bleach, with water to create a bleaching solution to dye the leather. Oxalic acid is commonly used to clean leather; follow the mixing directions for cleaning, but add more oxalic acid as desired to achieve a greater lightening effect.
Charcoal grey works best with contrasting colors, such as white and bright grey. It can also be a background for strong colors, such as blue, yellow or green.
Neutrals – If you want to create a soothing vibe, try combining gray with a neutral color palette of white and off-white shades, beiges, tans, blacks, and browns. These are colors that go well with gray of all shades, both lighter shades and darker shades.

A good combination would be to pair a softer gray with either a richer tan or a darker brown. Also, it's okay to pair two lighter shades as long as there is enough contrast–and if your brown and gray are similar in color, you can still create contrast with a texture.
Pair a Gray Sofa with Neutral Decor
Gray upholstery also provides a lovely base for neutral color schemes. Depending on the undertone, a gray sofa can fit well with white, beige, black, sepia, and wood tones. Vary the brightness of neutrals around the room to add depth and dimension to the palette.
Cream and gray is a modern combination used to create a scheme that is soothing and gender neutral. When balanced correctly, the two hues work well in almost any room of the house and can be integrated in different ways to accommodate the room's functionality.
Since purple is a combination of blue and red, warm yellow or white light helps to mute the blue tinge in a purple-gray wall, making it appear more gray. Compact fluorescent bulbs are now available with lower light temperatures labeled as "warm white." They provide the same light quality as incandescent bulbs.
Add one cup of distilled white vinegar to one gallon of hot water. Submerge the white fabric and allow it to soak overnight, then launder as usual.
It is possible to spray dye directly onto the couch. Mix your dye in a spray bottle, then spray the couch as evenly as possible. This is much faster and easier than removing the fabric and dyeing it.
If the slipcover is very dirty, start by soaking the entire slipcover (and any cushion covers) fully submerged in a bleach solution of ¼ cup Clorox® Regular Bleach2 per gallon of water for 5 minutes.
