WHAT??! WD-40 is an oil product. It's a blend of hydrocarbons. It won't affect limescale at all. WD-40 applied to a surface before it gets wet might keep the scale from forming or adhering, but WD-40 will not remove scale that has already formed and adhered.

I have managed unfortunately to spray WD40 on areas of Indian sandstone which has resulted in bad, noticeably dark staining on the sprayed areas.
