Even though you don't need plywood to support your whole countertop, there are some places where it will be better to have some for more protection. For instance, your dishwasher has no support, so you might want to ask your fabricator to add mesh under the countertop where the appliance goes.
The Average. The average thickness of plywood sheets used for backer on counter tops is 3/4-inch. This provides adequate support for a wide range of finish materials.
To be on the safe side, support the stone wire mesh or plywood as well as with corbels or brackets placed at equidistant intervals along the width of the bar top. Put them closer together if you have 2-cm granite slabs for your bar top. Your overhang should not exceed 24 inches.
Precast concrete countertops do not require installing plywood on top of open cabinets. However, plywood does make installing large, awkward or heavy pieces easier, since the slab can be slid along the smooth top without catching on a cabinet wall.

Granite thickness – granite tops with a thickness of 3 cm can have an 8-10 inch overhang without additional supports. If your granite top has a 2 cm thickness, we recommend attaching a support system should the overhang exceed 6 inches.
You must be thinking about standing or sitting on your countertops and unsure whether your countertops will take the weight, right? Granite is fairly thick, often at the very least ¾ of an inch. If the weight is evenly distributed over a large area, the countertops can hold up to 1000 pounds.
Construction Adhesive such as liquid nails or Gorilla Glue construction adhesive would be the best adhesive to attach Granite to Wood. It would provide the strongest bond and be permanent.

Quartz worktops tend to be thinner than other worktops
In recent years, this ultra-modern look has really caught on. The thing is though that conventional countertop thicknesses (typically 30mm or 40mm) can end looking quite heavy and unwieldy on such cabinets.
An average size granite slab that might go into your kitchen can weigh anywhere between 700 and 1200 lbs. You can have your granite countertops sized however large your space is needed, but the larger it is the heavier it will be.
Amount of overhang you have is the most important factor to consider in deciding whether you need support brackets. Most granite fabricators will recommend support brackets on overhangs over 12″ however, solely based on the overhang amount.
Granite Overhang Limits Per Experts
According to the Marble Institute of America, you can safely overhang granite that is 1- 1/4″ thick up to 10″ without supports. However, the cantilevered portion cannot be more than 1/3 the total width of the countertop.

Reasons to be Cautious about Granite Countertops
Granite is porous. This means that unsealed or poorly sealed counters can absorb wine, juice or oil, producing a stain that might be impossible to remove. A poorly-sealed countertop can also harbor bacteria in its pores.
Attach to Cabinets
Now that the seams of the slabs are joined, it's time to secure the stone to the cabinets. The sheer weight of the countertops is nearly enough to hold the stone in place, but you'll still want to run a bead of caulk along the underside perimeter of the counter, where the stone meets the cabinet top.
Plywood can be used in the construction of a kitchen countertop. Whether using thicker sheets as the framework or thinner sheets as the countertop work surface, your local lumberyard may stock exactly what you are looking for.
But finally, we decided to make it from the same hickory wood flooring. One and a half pieces did the trick, and my man cut the top piece so it smoothly angled back into the whitewashed wood paneling we had in the kitchen. The sink went in and just like that, we had beautiful hardwood kitchen countertops!
Domestic plywood used in cabinetry can be commonly found in thicknesses of 5/32 inch and up, but for the purposes of a frameless cabinet ANSI HP-1 nominal ¾-inch thick panels are ideal.
