No, GreenPan does not contain Teflon.
Our pans are toxin-free!
In 2019, a lawsuit was brought against GreenPan claiming false advertising and concluded with no findings of liability by the company. The case was dismissed. What we said about our products is true.
The short answer, No! GreenPan nonstick ceramic cookware differs from conventional nonstick ceramic cookware in that it does not contain PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene), a PFAS, more commonly known as Teflon.

On one hand, GreenPan offers a much bigger range of products and tends to cost less than Caraway's cookware, and their pans are much better made. It may also be better for induction, a lot more durable, and less susceptible to damage from the dishwasher and metal utensils, depending on which cookware you choose.
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), the fluoropolymer used to create Teflon coatings, and some of the chemicals used to manufacture it, have been linked with certain types of cancer, infertility, and other negative health outcomes.

Quality matters. While reputable manufacturers create PFAS-free ceramic coatings, some lower-quality imports may contain heavy metals or other concerning substances. Traditional 100% ceramic cookware - the kind made entirely from clay and fired at high temperatures - has proven safe through centuries of use.
All GreenPan products are coated with Thermolon™. This was the first and best ceramic nonstick coating to be launched on the market in 2007. Since then, we've created eight generations of Thermolon™. Each is manufactured without forever chemicals known as PFAS and without any Lead or Cadmium.
For an explanation of ratings methodology, click here. Overall Rating: 4.2/5 Very Good. Cleanup: 5/5 Excellent. PTFE (such as Teflon) is famous for being easy to clean, since food will not tightly stick to it, but the ceramic used in these GreenPans, trademarked as “Thermolon” ceramic, is almost as slick.
Our Thermolon™ coating and GreenPan™ cookware undergo independent testing by highly professional, accredited third-party labs to ensure compliance with our product claims, quality standards, and numerous safety regulations.
About GreenPan
A part of The Cookware Company, GreenPan was founded in 2007 by lifelong friends Jan Helskens and Wim De Veirman, bringing a new approach to how cookware is developed and manufactured.
In family kitchens, non-stick pans are the first choice for many housewives and cooking enthusiasts because of their easy cleaning and anti-stick properties. However, professional chefs rarely use non-stick pans in kitchens, preferring stainless steel, cast iron or carbon steel pans.
For health-conscious cooks, both options can be good, but you may prefer ceramic cookware that is 100% non-toxic and free from chemicals. Cast iron is also a healthy choice, but it does require seasoning and can add a little iron to your food.
Stainless steel cookware is widely regarded as safe and non-toxic for everyday use. Stainless steel non-toxic cookware is a durable, corrosion-resistant alloy that's practical for a wide range of cooking tasks. By preheating your stainless steel pan and using a bit of oil you can help prevent food from sticking.
Is GreenPan Cookware Safe? If safety is your priority when it comes to cookware (and if it's not, it should be!), GreenPan cookware definitely passes the test. GreenPan uses nonstick coatings made without PFAS chemicals like PTFE, PFOA, and GenX, as well as heavy metals like lead and cadmium.
Ceramic coatings offer excellent benefits, including hydrophobic properties, UV protection, and an enhanced shine. However, they come with drawbacks such as high cost, limited scratch resistance, and maintenance requirements.
Ceramic does not leach toxic chemicals, is easy to clean, is safe to use on the stovetop, and 100% ceramic is safe to use in the microwave and oven. It is nonstick when used at low to medium temperatures, which is why crock pots and instant pressure cookers are often ceramic.
While both offer nonstick properties, ceramic pans are considered more eco-friendly and healthier due to the absence of harmful chemicals. However, traditional nonstick pans tend to last longer, as ceramic coatings can wear down over time.
Chefs today are not just focused on speed and output, but also on food quality, safety, and sustainability. This shift has pushed many professionals to rethink the cookware they use daily. That is one reason why pro chefs use ceramic cookware more often than before.
Why are eggs sticking to my ceramic pan? Eggs stick when the pan is too hot, not preheated correctly, or lacks fat. Preheat briefly, add butter or oil, and allow eggs to release naturally before flipping.
