Goo Gone makes an Oven & Grill Cleaner for exactly this purpose, but my regular variety worked fine. Together

Honestly Dawn and Windex work wonders. I like to use Windex on the stove especially. Spray some, let it sit a while, and then wipe it with a wet rag. Scrub Dawn into almost anything, especially oily stuff, and after letting it sit for a little while scrub it in a circular motion.
Make a Cleaning Paste: In a small bowl, mix baking soda with a little water to create a thick paste. Apply the Paste: Spread the baking soda paste over the greasy areas of the stove top. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Scrub the Surface: Using a soft cloth or non-abrasive scrub brush, scrub the stove top gently.

Firstly, make a mix of warm water and degreasing soap (or detergent) to help break down the grease. You can use clean water or a vinegar solution spray to wipe away residue after you have given the outside of the rangehood a good clean. There are a number of brand name cleaners that claim to do the work mentioned here.

Is it safe to use Goof Off® Power Cleaner & Degreaser in an oven or on a stovetop? Yes, but wash off with soap and water from any burners or food contact surfaces.

Easy-Off is safe to use in self-cleaning ovens, gas ovens, and electric ovens, although for electric ovens you must cover the heating element with foil before applying Easy-Off cleaner. Always ensure your oven is turned off and completely cooled before applying Easy-Off cleaner.
