Floetrol is an additive specially formulated for use with water-based paints and wood stains, making them work and apply smoothly like oil-based paints. Added to any water-based paint, Floetrol increases the open or wet edge time, improves workability and eliminates brush marks and roller marks.
Overall floetrol can be helpful if your working in extreme weather conditions with certain water borne paints. Â Floetrol can help reduce brush marks in your finish and make spraying your coating easier but proper directions should be followed when adding floetrol to a paint.
The only way to rid would be to sand the roller marks out using a p120 grade sandpaper or finer then applying the paint properly using a roller and levelling / flattening off the paint properly when applied.
It is not recommended for use with oil-based paint. Many artists have had problems using Floetrol.
NOTE: The amount of Floetrol added will not change the color or sheen of most latex or acrylic paint. Floetrol may reduce the sheen in gloss paints.

This happens when the paint coating fails to dry to a smooth film. You might be seeing unsightly brush and roller marks, or other unintentional textured patterns left in the paint by the roller.
However, do this before the paint section dries, or this will create patches. Take an unloaded roller and start from the top corner as close to the edge as possible, with hardly any pressure, and roll straight down until you reach the bottom. Repeat this action, overlapping to prevent streak lines.
If your roller runs dry, you'll find yourself with uneven patches, leaving your walls looking inconsistent. Also resist the urge to rework wet paint and trust the process… it will look patchy whilst drying! Another common culprit in achieving a patchy effect is not maintaining a wet edge whist cutting in.
Incorrect brush selection. Too much paint on your brush. Overworking your paint by brushing back and forth in the same spot. Your local climate.

I use a ratio of about.. 3 parts Floetrol to 1 part paint. And then I add a few drops of distilled water as needed to get the right consistency, commonly compared to warm honey. As for paints that just always seem to be thicker, they may need a few more drops of water.
Note: The amount of FLOETROL® added will not change the colour or sheen of flat or semi- gloss emulsion or acrylic paint. FLOETROL® may reduce the sheen in gloss paints.

Cells – the 100% Floetrol seemed to create cells that were better looking. There were fewer large cells in the 100% Liquitex and the 50/50 mix did have cells, but they seemed to break up and go feathery where the paints seemed to mix. Drying – they all took the same amount of time to dry.

Floetrol has a shelf life of one year in its original unopened packaging, once opened it is not possible for us to give it a definite shelf life as there are too many variables, however assuming that the Floetrol is kept in the right storage conditions then you should find it still good to use after 12 months.
A difference in paint sheens always has a root cause, usually poor application processes, that include: Over-thinning the paint. Overspreading the paint across the surface. Overly porous substrates that result in the over-penetration of the top coat of paint.
High resin quantities allow the paint to flow more smoothly and evenly than low resin paints. High resin quantities keep pigment particles low and embedded within the resin. This gives the painted surface a strong glossiness.
Select a clear topcoat product designed specifically for adding gloss to flat paint, such as a polyurethane finish or an acrylic-based sealer. Apply the topcoat evenly using a high-quality brush or roller, following the manufacturer's instructions for application and drying times.
